Romo's Lone Defender

With all the media, current players and past players trashing Romo whenever they get near a mic, I was surprised to hear an ex-Giant QB defend him.

While listening to XM ch 86 I caught some of the Mad Dog show while he was interviewing Phil Simms.

Mr. Simms was adamant in his defense of Romo as if he was defending his own son. He chastised the ESPN talking head (he couldn't remember his name) for saying the regular season means nothing Romo will only be judged on the playoffs.

He brought up the Seattle game and stated he drove the team for the winning score but failed as a "holder"

He mentioned the Giants game and challenged MadDog to remember the real reason Dallas lost that game (The Crayton 3rd down possibly scoring drop) Then reminded the host that the INT he threw at the end was a 4th down, last play desperation throw.

Phil then went on to question why doesn't Vick, M.Ryan and other QB's who have failed with worse INTs to cost their team games are never scrutinized like Rom0

The interview ended with Phil saying something like if I'm the GM or coach and you tell me I have Romo as my QB......I know I'm going to win a Super Bowl. :wha?

On a side note: It was obvious that Mad Dog expected something negative from Simms and he tried to keep bringing up the negative but Simms stood his ground better our own Playmaker could on his best day....Phil Simms was in Romo Hater attack mode.

I wouldn't call him the Lone Defender, it is quickly becoming in vogue to be a Romo apologist. Bayless, Cowherd, Gottlieb, and some dudes I listen to locally and on Fox syndication have been backing Romo and the Cowboys.

We really need to get away from all the stupid labels. "Romo Haters" "Romo Apoligists".

The reality is, some people criticize Romo for his flaws.. and they arn't wrong.

Some back him for all the good things he does for the franchise.. and they arn't wrong either.

Im sure alot of these guys have flip flopped their ideas of Romo a bunch of times based on what they think will get them to standout as an analyst the most. Either way, there are clearly two sides to Romo and recognizing his flaws shouldn't make anyone a "hater" anymore than someone who recognizes all the good he brings to the table should be an "apoligist".

if you've taken your stand in the "cowboys will never win a super bowl with romo" camp then you're a hater and a doofus plain and simple.

Why are people who believe that wrong, or "haters", in your opinion? As long as its their opinon and they justify why they feel like that rationally.. its not more right or wrong then any opinion anyone else has.

Same for the so called "Romo apologists".

The only stupid people are the ones throwing the labels out there in the first place and calling either side out, while providing no substance or thoughts of their own.

Let me spell it out for you then.

No one knows whether Romo will win a super bowl with us or not.. that much should be obvious at least.

So then, those who doubt he will do it and those who think he will do it.. neither are wrong.

As long as you have an opinion on the matter and justify it rationally, neither side is wrong.

Again, the only one's who are truly "wrong" in this situation are those saying either side is "wrong" for rationalizing thier opinion on the matter one way or the other.

(Psst.. im talking about you.)

Thats because Cowboys fans, division rival fans, and anyone who thought he was the 2nd coming of Brett Favre are the only ones bashing the shit out of him.

Its all about expectations... I understand there is always a difference in opinion but stop expecting him to pull a Peyton Manning and single handedly carry a team to a SB title.

Expect him to be a gun slinger. Expect him to blow some games with that attitude and expect him to win games with that attitude. Just the way its gonna be for as long as he's in the league. Fans need to accept that.

Actually, one side is right and one side is wrong. We will know the results after his career is over. It’s like saying one group says the Cowboys will win and another group says the Patriots will win, then saying neither side is wrong.

The rational view is to say Romo will NOT win a Super Bowl. The odds are against him and he has an unfavorable track record in the playoffs. Of course the homers (brain washing) in us clouds that logic and we believe it will happen. It could...but it’s unlikely.

That's no worse then people saying there is no way he'll win one, either. Speaking in absolutes on a subject like this is retarded. Anything is possible. I'm sure people were saying the same thing about Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer. But they found a good situation and won one. Making a definitive statement either way is retarded. It's possible he wins one. It's possible he doesn't.

I will say that I've seen a hell of a lot more people claim with certainty that he won't win then I've seen people say he will. Most say that he CAN. Big difference.

Exactly. As long as there is the possibility of either outcome occuring, there are reasonable arguments to be made for those who think he can win one and those who think he won't. Neither side is wrong at this point.. its just a matter of opinion.
