Free is not what any team wants to trot out there at LT. I've been told since last training camp how good he is. Only recently has the tide turned. Now we hear how he isn't all that, but he's good enough.

Prove it. Because it didn't come from my keyboard.

Bullshat. He's not good enough for me. Not when he's protecting a franchise QB in a pass happy offense.

One big difference between sbk's opinion of Free and my opinion. I think Doug Free can do a much better job at right tackle. Sbk hasn't wavered on his opinion that free is only a backup LT.

Who gives the **** what sbk says about anything, he's certifiably, ****ing stupid. If I looked down from the 10th floor of my apartment building and saw him walking underneath, I'd drop an anvil on his head.

I'd start'em like this.

Tyron Smith, Logan Mankins, Andre Gurode, David Arkin, Doug Free. Yes, sign Mankins he's worth it.

F' Kosier and his injury riddled ass, and Davis is a load of shit. They both need to go.

I wouldn't mind that lineup at all.. next year though. I think Arkin definitely needs a year in an NFL conditioning program to work on his strength, and also to learn the offense and improve his technique.

Yeah, I'll admit It'll be too soon for Arkin but the kid will definitely start there next year. I'm hoping it's this year at some point though.

We'll have to sign two free agent lineman or we are stuck with Kosier and Davis. Pathetic.

Also with our new strength and conditioning coach it should benefit us more than in the past.

High school and snap practices in collge does not constitute "playing" LT.

Call it whatever you'd like.. but he's played both positions if you define the word play in any normal fashion. When i hear that he said himself, that he's more comfortable on the left side, im inclined to believe him.

You believe he's gonna be a hall of famer? He said so.

And how many times have we seen a rookie think and say that they're ready for anything?

I think projecting his career goals and stating from his own experience what side he's more comfortable on are two incredibly different subject matters. I'd expect no one would know more than him what side he's comfortable on, ya know?

It was just a ploy to increase his draft stock. That is why he said that in his post draft press conference

That is the whole point we're trying to make here, Bob. Tyron Smith would not have been drafted if Doug Free was as good as some of the fans want to think he is.

And there's simply no way of knowing that. Maybe they do think internally that Free is best suited to RT.

But the more likely explanation is the OL as a whole has been weak for years. They have a massive hole at one T spot and Tyron Smith was clearly the highest rated OL on their board by a fairly large margin. Smith and Free have both played RT and played it well. Free has played LT and has proven he can do the job. Smith projects nicely to LT and could be an elite player there.

They didnt draft Smith because Free isnt any good and needed to be replaced, they drafted Smith to pair with Free and start fixing the weakest unit on the team for the next decade.

Not for nothing but Robert Gallery was a LT in college, and started at LT in the NFL.

Now he's the starting RT. Having said this I believe Smith could make the transition to play RT this year.

Now down the road he could easily move back to the LT position, if Free doesn't get his big contract or we decide to go in another direction at RT.

I know a lot of us fans don't think Young has the ability to start at RT, but the team may see otherwise.

Gallery is starting at RG.

I don't know why that's so hard to understand. It's like the firestorm over the belief that Ware was "dissing" Free because he spoke highly of Flozell and saying how'd we miss him.
