Like it or not, it’s gonna happen

Exactly, it’s going to happen. Guys can hope and pray for a late 1st round QB if they want but Dak is the guy.

MrB and Scot - you're both arguing a point nobody's making. Everyone knows Dak is going to get signed long term and for big money. That doesn't mean we should all agree with the business decision. Jerry has proven to be just exactly this stupid.

Hell, I had these same pointless debates with everyone at DCU over Dez. And the clods who were proven WRONG all had your same arguments, never addressing the actual point.

We KNOW they're going to sign him big/long term. We also know IT IS A MISTAKE!

LET HIM TEST THE FUCKING MARKET FIRST!

Shit.

I had all these same objections over the Romo contract too. And was right then as well. Hell, he is proving it yet again - he's MUCH more concentrated on his golf game than he EVER was on football. You been watching the fuck? NO yuk-yuk, all serious as fuck! NEVER saw that when he was wearing that #9 jersey!

There's NO reason to get in any big fucking hurry to lock Dak up long-term. And NOBODY is going to be competing for his services as a starter. So why the fuck should we be the only ones in that market?

Fuck. THAT is the objection. Not whether Dak will work out or not.

I know they're going to end up paying him some ridiculous amount. But I'm curious about one thing. How many teams right now are in the market for a starting QB that would pay Dak 30M a year if Dallas doesn't?

Uninformed? How am I uninformed? You don’t seriously think they are just going to let Dak walk and draft some time guy late in the first round do you. If that’s what you believe then sorry son, you’re the one misinformed. You have to be living in some fantasy world where they are going to ditch Dak and go draft some elite prospect that will lead them to the promised land.

We all know the team is going to sign Dak but we're talking about our opinions. You keep parroting what the team tells you to believe. I know better.

I personally don’t believe Dak is this horrible QB that should be compared to Quincy Carter like some here have done. Is he an elite passer? Hell no. But he is adequate. He’s good enough for this team to win. They’ve been in the playoffs 2 of the last 3 years and if not for Zeke’s legal issues it would have been 3 years straight. Coaching has held this team back not Dak.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see some more. You can support an "adequate" QB but my standards are just a bit higher. "Adequate" can describe a lot of QB's if you build a team around them but we're fixing to pay this fraud upwards of 30 million per year.

There will always be teams that overpay for QB's. Hell, Minny thought they had a good team and could support an "adequate" QB like Kirk Cousins who had a better year than Dak. Is Cousins worth the money he got? Is he a franchise QB? Not to me.

The issue here is that the Cowboys make money by just being "adequate." That's how we define our franchise QB now. If the team is in the playoff hunt towards the end of the season, mission accomplished. The money rolls in by the boatload, the young fans are happy because they were entertained, and there's hope for the next season because Jerry and his spawn can claim we were just a player or two away. Wash, rinse and repeat. It's been a money making formula for the Jones clan and the sucker fans just accept it. #StockholmSyndrome

Really? You know better? What team are you a talent scout for again?

Agreed. We see this happen over and over again. But they do it because they feel if they don't, someone else will. I was asking literally, what team(s) are in the market for a starting QB that might possibly pay Dak that kind of money if Dallas does not? Aren't most teams pretty much set at QB?

The difference between Minny’s situation with Cousins and Dallas’ situation with Dak is that in Dallas they know what they have in Dak. He’s not an unknown commodity and they know he fits their system. He’s guided them to the playoffs in 2 or the last 3 seasons and would have been 3 straight seasons if not for Zeke’s legal issues.

As for teams that would likely pay Dak right now... Raiders, Cincy, and possibly Denver and the Bucs. Every other team is already set at QB or has a young prospect they really like.

I do know better. So no one can have an opinion if they're not a scout? Again, just another lame and typical response for a shill who can't think for himself or form an opinion beyond what the team tells them.

Yep, it's gonna happen. We will be in a playoff game and here comes one of those Dak,ducks to lose the game. You know the one that bounces in the dirt behind the receiver. Or the one that sails 10 yards behind the receiver. Oh it's gonna happen alright.

I'd cut it to Cinci and maybe Tampa. It looks like the Raiders are going to ride Carr because his deal isn't looking so bad now, and Dak isn't an upgrade worth the extra cost. Denver drafter Lock, no way they offer Dak a monster deal. That's not a lot of competition left over.

You’re not stating it as an opinion though. You’re stating it as a fact, that you know better than guys who’s job it is to scout for NFL teams. You’re just some schmo like the rest of us posting on a message board. There is zero truth to the statement that YOU know better than NFL scouts who have been doing that for years. It’s cool if you have an opinion like the rest of us but don’t come in here trying to act like your states are fact and everyone else’s are garbage. You’re opinion ultimately mean jack just like everyone else’s here, you’re no better than anyone else bud.

That’s entirely possible. Every QB (not named Tom Brady) has made mistakes late in big games. So there is absolutely a chance that happens. There is also a chance that as Dak goes into his 4th, 5th, and 6th seasons he will improve. You know, players can improve as they gain experience. So just as likely as it is that he throws a duck it’s also very likely that he throws one deep to Cooper for a big gain just like he did twice against Philly last year. You are entirely possible.

Personally I think Dak is better than Carr. The contract would definitely be an issue for the Raiders but then you never know with Gruden. He was a big fan of Dak coming out Mississippi St and even though they are rebuilding he did give Antonio. Down a huge contract.

I forgot about Lock in Denver. I was thinking that they would gladly take Dak over Flacco. Tampa for sure. But you are right, there isn’t a lot of competition out there for starting QB spots.

I don't want to sign him anytime soon. It's not like it's gonna cost us twice as much to sign him next April if he has a good year. Prove to me that you can have a dominant season (with the help of Cooper) while improving significantly in terms of turnovers in the pocket and errant passes. Right now he's a mulatto Andy Dalton, and Andy ain't worth $30M.
Dalton is an excellent comparison.

I have an opionion and if I had a few billion dollars to toss around, I'd be as qualified as Jerry to be GM of an NFL team as he was when he started. But that wasn't the point. I was responding to your revelation that the Cowboys were going to sign Dak and I should live with it. Of course the Cowboys are going to sign Dak. But that doesn't mean he's anywhere near a top 5 QB but he's going to get paid like one. I get it; that's acceptable to you and others like you with low expectations. Not me.
