I absolutely think he should use his legs more because he’s a threat with his legs. I’m not saying he needs to run the ball 25 times a game but there are a handful of times where he should definitely take off. He’s smart when he runs and slides to avoid big hits. He’s shown that he can make big plays with his legs so why would you want to take that away from him?
I'm sorry Mr. B. But your whiole post is just a lot of excuse making for Dak's deficiencies. The running QB has rarely been a recipe for success. And do you really want your franchise QB to run and risk injury?
He’ll never be Rodgers, Brady, or Brees with his arm. That’s obvious. He can get better though. You mention Big Ben. If there is anyone in this league that Dak is similar to its him. In Ben’s first three years he was a bus driver. He wasn’t out there slinging it around when he got that first Super Bowl. He had a great team around him with a great defense. His job was to manage the game and not fuck up. Sound familiar? As he gained experience his passing improved. That is the hope for Dak. He’s shown he can play in this league.
Rothlisberger won the SB in his second year. He's the engine that makes that team run. He's the most important player on that team and the team was 6 and 10 the year before they drafted him. That's what teams do when they have aging QB's, they draft one in the 1st round.
Let me ask you a question? Are you prepared to waist the team they have now to start over at QB?
We're already wasting the team with a sub-standard QB. You're defeating your own argument.
What is YOUR plan for a QB? Because with the team they have now you’re not getting a top 5 pick to go draft a Baker Mayfield or Pat Mahommes. You’re also not prying Rodgers away from Green Bay or Brees away from New Orleans. So what’s your plan? Let Dak walk and draft a QB late in the 1st and hope that he has a start to his career like Dak did? So you plan to groom a guy for 4-5 years? Because if that’s your plan then this team’s window is likely closed. Realistically this team is primed to win right now. They will have about a 4 year window and right now Dak is their best realistic option. He has the leadership skills and we know that he won’t fuck it all up. I agree that he likely won’t win you the game with his arm but he’s definitely not going to lose you the game either. He’s going to rely on the best players on this team to do that. I guarantee you that if this team had a guy out there slinging it around and blowing games at the end by throwing int’s you would be screaming why aren’t they running it more when they have the best running back and OL in the NFL. We had that guy already in Romo and how many rings did he get?
Who grooms franchsie QB's for 4 years in today's NFL? That's not even an argument worth discussing. Mahones wasn't a top 5 pick but the Chiefs went out and got a QB because they weren't satisfied with 12 and 4 which was their record the previous season when they drafted Mahomes. They had a bus driver QB in Smith and a decent back-up in Foles but they didn't take the Jerry Jones approach of "we like what we have." In addition, Rodgers was drafted with Farve still on the team because they had a plan. And Brees was a second rounder. Teams didn't just settle and neither should we.
And this quote kills me: "I agree that he likely won’t win you the game with his arm but he’s definitely not going to lose you the game either." This drives me nuts when I hear this from a Dak supporter. I mean, what are you saying? You're going to pay the man top 5 QB money but he'll have to rely on the D which is what he's been doing. Hey, Dak's a winner!!! Yeah, a winner who leads his team to 22 points a game and prays the D holds.
