And going Dline first would've been a monster of a mistake. As history has proven.

Here's the story, as confirmed by Bryan Broaddus.

Parcells wanted Merriman with the 11th pick in the draft. He loved Merriman and Spears, and was just okay with Ware.

Jerry and Stephen told Parcells the morning of the draft that we were taking Ware over Merriman because of character concerns and because of rumors (that came true) that Merriman was switching his agent to the Postons.

Parcells then felt we should've taken Spears at 11, because he thought we could've gotten Ware later in the draft (namely, 20th).

I'll re-itterate my earlier comment... if Parcells had his way, the best pass rusher in the NFL, and our best player, would not even be on this team. We would've taken Merriman or ~gulp~ Spears, at 11.

I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Bill was a flea fart above .500 while here, and his core has registered one stinking playoff win. I don't know what kind of definition most of you have for success, but it aint mine.

I've never heard that before. Where'd you get this from?

I remember it like it was yesterday. I saw it on ESPN. Jerry was asked about the QB change. He said something like:

Jerry: I still think Drew Bledsoe gives us the best chance to win.

It was almost exactly like that. I'm sure it was printed also.

Parcells said he met Merriman and thought he was a jerk. Thought Merriman would be better off the start but Ware would be better long term

Except the part where he preferred Ware

Ware reminded him of LT but no, he had a raging boner for Marcus Spears and wanted to trade up to #1 to take Spears.

Not buying it.

It's been reported multiple places, and confirmed by Bryan Broaddus, who was in the war room.

You don't have to "buy it", but it's true.

Its also been reported that he thought Merriman was a jerk and didnt like him. Yet you claim that Parcells really wanted Merriman.

When a prime pass rusher is available that reminds you of LT and is a great young kid you dont hold off on him b/c a workmanlike DE might be gone. It goes against all common sense.

And how much board following is he really doing? Thats not even up to him to decide where he thinks a player might of. They have a whole department for that.

Hey guys, Im installing a 3-4 but I will hold off on his once in a decade pass-rusher for this run stopping 5 tech.

A guy who was in the room, and directly involved in the process, has confirmed it.

I'm sorry you don't agree with it, username. I'm just the messenger.

And obviously Parcells thought Spears could be more than just a run stopping 5-technique. Hell, a lot of people did.

Conflicting reports, both by people in the room. One is logical and falls in line w/ Parcells way of thinking(and the entire foundation of the 3-4 defense's ) and the other is dickfart

Where did the second report come from?

Who is the second guy in the room, that confirms your story?

I'm not saying it's not true. I'm only reporting what I've read and understand to be true.

He was also going to pass on Terence Newman for Dwayne Robertson.

I asked Broaddus about this as well.

Broaddus says that Parcells loved Robertson and really liked Kevin Williams in that draft. The team wanted Newman, and Parcells didn't put up much of a fight.

Robertson, of course, was taken a spot ahead of us... thankfully.
