How many are raped? How many are beaten on a regular basis? Hundreds of thousands every year. Over 5,700 kids were shot in the years 2008 and 2009 combined. Personally I do not see what the big deal is regarding this incident. A guy was keeping watch in his neighborhood, similar to what people do in my neighborhood and reported a suspicious person. He returned to his car as instructed and was attacked along the way. He shot the attacker after fearing for his life. It was not a big deal until the media started lying their asses off in the name of sensationalism and revenue.

If Trayvon was a few months older would anyone have cared?

There's no telling what captures the media/public's attention, for anyone ranting about why this is receiving news coverage. I don't think many kid shootings have some of the weird elements that this one had, so that's one thing.

Hell it's shocking that this story captured anyone's attention, since minority stories tend to get very little play, whereas a white chick disappearing while on spring break at one of the nicest locations on earth will be a story for months.

And please, you and I both know this story isn't about a "child being killed by an adult." Several months ago a dad and his 8 year old son were leaving a gun store and getting in their car when the gun went off, killing the son. Do you remember hearing about that every day for several weeks straight?

So would you care if a Hispanic guy shot a black guy if the black guy was a legal adult? I don't see endless threads on message boards about he 600 killed in Chicago last year.
