Former Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver Drew Pearson is very optimistic about the upcoming Cowboys season. The Ring of Honor member and three-time Pro Bowler predicted Tuesday that his former team will win 11 games in 2013.

And Pearson didn’t stop there. The Cowboys haven’t reached the playoffs since 2009 and have only one postseason victory since 1996, but The Original 88 told Fitzsimmons and Durrett on 103.3 KESN-FM that the Cowboys will also reach the Super Bowl, where they’ll face the Houston Texans.

“It’s going to be an all-Texas Super Bowl in New Jersey, in the winter, in the cold weather, in the snow and all that,” Pearson said. “Two dome teams, haven’t played in the cold weather all season, and now they’re going up to Jersey and play in the cold weather.”

The Texans prediction doesn’t seem too bold. Houston has reached the postseason each of the last two seasons and they set a franchise record with 12 wins in 2012.

But the Cowboys? To go from consecutive 8-8 seasons to playing in the Super Bowl, it would certainly validate the Tony Romo contract extension and job security would be the farthest thing from Jason Garrett’s mind.

“It’s time. They’re due,” Pearson said. “Everybody else has had a chance, let’s get these guys their opportunity. I just think there are a few missing pieces on offense. Get a running game going, keep people healthy there, improvement in the offensive line. Romo passed for over 4,900 yards last season. It’s just a matter of getting that ball in the end zone.

“I just think they have what it takes on offense, and then defensively, the improvements there, I think the Cowboys have made the most upgrades with this football team as anybody in the NFC East. So I think they got a great shot. Keeping people healthy is going to be a big thing.”

Skill position wise we definitely have enough talent to win offensively. There is that pesky OL to think about though.

True, but I think Frederick goes a long way to fixing that.

Just his size/strength/smarts alone will make the two scrubs next to him better.

I'm mostly worried about Free though.

I expect Frederick to be good, but I also think it is a bit foolish to expect the rookie C right alot of the wrongs of the interior of that line.

"improvements on defense"? Durant and Allen will put us over the top or something? very unlike him to homer out like this.

The improvements will be about adding Kiffin and Marinelli. I feel good about our DEs, CBs, and LBs, but we have massive question marks at DT and S. Positions we continually do not seem to value.

wishful thinking. they will not be able to compensate for a lack of Super Bowl-type talent on defense. Jimmy Johnson and Wannstedt were just as smart in 1989 as they were in 1992, but they didn't win. why? not enough talent. 2013 will be no different.

I don't agree with this. At that time, they were still college coaches learning the NFL game. You can't tell me they didn't learn a lot those first few years, which helped them during our run.

what's dumb about "brains and coaching" not being enough? we need talent more than we need Marinelli.

I don't think there's much to learn about the pro game if you already have talent (see: Barry Switzer). Not sure JJ coached football any differently in '92 than he did in '89. Training camps were brutal all through his reign.

I don't understand why some people think we have so little talent. Now does our depth on defense suck? Yes, it's our first year in this scheme and we basically didn't draft or sign anyone in the front seven. But we have plenty of talent. You have to look around the league and realize that no one else is perfect at every position either.

I thought Jimmy and Wandstadt learned a lot during the first few years in the league.

And I don't think we're completely void fo talent like that 1989 team was.

We have talent. Quite a bit at a few positions.

That I never suggested. Sorry if it came off that way. I fully concede that we have talent, just not championship caliber talent. I just think that if given a choice between Rob Ryan and the '85 Bears or Kiffin and the current Dallas defense, Red and Jerry would opt for the former.

I don't know if I agree with that.

I thikn we have championship talent (counting starters only, depth is questionable) at:

QB
WR
TE
LOT
DE
MLB
WOLB
CB

I think if we stay healthy, we'll be right in the mix at the end of the year.
