Obviously, the Cowboys will have to hit the free-agent market to get some kind help at safety this year. We all know this. It’s a must.

The Cowboys just can’t count on anyone in this draft to come in and contribute right away. That’s not to say it can’t or won’t happen. But anything they get through the draft, will have to be a bonus pick.

That being said, we’ve all seen the list by now of potential safety free-agents. We know the names like Weddle, Landry, Manning, Huff, Elam, Goldson and Pool. But right there in the middle of all of them is Gerald Sensabaugh.

And actually, re-signing him, and getting him locked up early should be a top priority.

What he gives you, more than experience, is flexibility. He has the ability to play either free or strong safety. That means getting him re-signed, opens up the entire group of safety free-agents.

If Huff is the guy, then Sensabaugh can resume his duties at strong safety. If the Cowboys decide to go with a guy like Danieal Manning or maybe Abram Elam, then Sensabaugh should be able to move to free safety.

Although many teams are using more of the interchangeable safeties in today’s wide-open game, it’s still somewhat rare to find a player who can double in either spot. That’s one thing Sensabaugh has. Whether he uses that as leverage in the free-agent process . . . only time will tell.

But it seems to be a good enough reason for the Cowboys to try and get him back.

Strongly disagree. Sensabaugh is garbage on a stick.

Ideally, a safety tandem of Dawan Landry and Michael Huff would help this defense tremendously.

First it was Ball has great value.

Now it's resigning Sensabaugh should be a top priority.

What's tomorrow? A can't lose Sam Hurd article?

Nick's really stepping up his suck lately.

I love how nobody has any hope that Owusu-Ansah will challenge to start this year.

I like AOA. I was pimping him before the draft in that other forum.

What terrified me about him last year was the fact that although he was a gameday active as a return man, the team still had to use active roster spots on undrafted free agents Barry Church and Danny McCray, who played safety ahead of AOA. I get that McCray also contributed on Special Teams but Church? McCray never started in college and was getting reps at safety while AOA only saw the field on kick returns.

He was one of my favorites before the draft but he is nothing until proven otherwise. Just like Sam Young

Church would be a last resort if they could only afford 1 safety free agent. Id roll with Huff and X over Anything and Sensabuagh

Hey, I agree. His first year wasn't promising. But he wouldn't be the first guy to make a gigantic leap his second year.

I just find it odd to mention Barry Church without mentioning AOA as a possible starting option.

I don't think I even know any more what the difference is between the two safety spots.

It used to be clear. Now it's muddled with the way teams pass the football.

Ive read by Sturm that Ryan likes to blitz his safeties a ton.

Huff would be single high, thats where he operated a great majority. But when he did blitz he was effective.

Not that AOA's ability to blitz would be a deal breaker if he was good enough at the other things, but I think its a strong indication that Ryans SS would be closer to the line of scrimmage

Fat Rob might have to tailor his scheme to the roster and use Scandrick as his blitz guy. He's got a knack for it.

I would think Lee could be a nice blitzer. If you're smart, understand offensive formations and have good instincts, you should be able to make some plays blitzing.

Why is everyone in love with Huff? Cause he was a Longhorn?

All I remember of the guy is he's the same safety Rex Ryan benched his last year as DC in Oakland.

He looked like a different player the last two years though.

Sometimes it takes guys a few years.

It's definitely not because he's a Longhorn. If anything, that would turn off most people around here.
