Tells me Newmans done. Probably gonna cut him before the season.

Newman signed a 7 year extension a few years back. It was frontloaded, and the guaranteed portions of the contract are in the first 3 years. This is year 3 and thus the last of the guaranteed portion, and so he will not be cut this season.

Idk about this deal. Scandrick seems pretty average to me. Yeah he's quick and a good blitzer but he doesn't make any plays.

To be fair, he's been stuck in the nickle role, and that's the hardest corner position to play.

If, at the end of the next five years, he hasn't made many plays still, then I think we can legitimately question the signing.

:awkward

I've seen Scandrick not look up for the ball enough times to know that he just doesn't possess that skill. Cripes, didn't the ball hit him the facemask once? Or am I thinking of Newman on that particular gaffe? Now maybe Rob Ryan has instilled it in him during the very short time that he's had to work with him here, but I have my doubts.

Then you dont know shit, which 99% of people who read your retardedness have also figured out
I'm cool w/ everyone - you seem to have the stick up your ass over me because I don't drink the Kool Aid...

Dude, we just gave an unproven player 27M for 5 yrs.... you can pick up a Scandrick type for $600 K next season....they're called backups ...

I wouldnt call him unproven. He was a very solid nickel CB for most of his 3yrs here. He got better last yr after Wade was canned, and by all accounts he's had a tremendous camp this yr. If the HC and Def Coordinator are for the move, its good by me.

Needs to improve his ball skills, thats his one weakness.

Kinda sounds like Marion Barber before his extension. He too was awesome as a sub-package player and bit starter.

Excellent comparison ....

You see - this is where we lack a GM ...a GM choses the players...that he thinks will fit the "vision" ie George Young ....the late Great George Young....NEVER let Bill Parcels pick the players....Parcels hated him for that ....BUT guess what - 2 Rings later....

As much as I like Garett and I do and Ryan I think I can grow to like - they aren't GM's ... they aren't talent evaluators by trade...

And I agree, Scandrick finished strong last season ... 27 M strong? NO....

I don't think the comparisons apply. Ryan's defense is predicated on aggressiveness, and Scandrick brings that. He gambles quite a bit, but he will put his nose into play. He played better in the second half of the season. Newman is as good as gone after this season. Who is out there for free agency?

I don't see anyone out there that would give us better than Scandrick. And I do not see any college CB coming in and getting the start.

Well idiot. The $10 million is what's guaranteed and I believe it's over 2-3 years.
