Dbair and Jon23 are completely missing the point.

Rob's unit wasn't anywhere near as bad as Garrett's, and was probably on par with Garrett's when he was starting baristas and pep boys cashiers at linebacker and safety.

If Garrett gets another year, there's no god damned way anyone in the NFL deserved to get fired this year, especially Rob Ryan.

Its just another giant "fuck you and a wink" from the worst kind of salesman piece of shit this league has ever seen.

This isn't change, or "uncomfortable offseason", this is hiding behind a RB coach and a DC, while trying to figure out what their next move is when they get the same results next year.

The numbers say otherwise. Fewest turnovers ever forced in a season, most yards per game ever allowed.

Last year defense blew five 4th qtr leads?

Offense scored more than ten points before the half once. Once.

Worst rushing numbers ever.

The offense was at least as shitty as the defense.

Just sayin. Ryan totally deserved to be canned.

Garrett may still get canned as well. At the least, seems he is certain to get canned as a play caller.

Guess you havent been reading what I've been saying.

And I am totally good with Garrett getting canned, and have said he deserves it too.

The difference is you assume he isnt going to be, while I still think its possible he gets canned too.

Garrett isn't going anywhere. That's the point.

This is unacceptable. If you're going to do something, do it all the way.

Are you in denial? He released a statement about the firing of Ryan and the direction he was taking with the team.

If Jerry wasn't afraid of protecting his ego he'd let jg go and hand the keys to someone with a track record. But if you keep dumping coaches it's more obvious that you're the problem. In your roster and coaching hires.

Fuck isn't he like 80? Doesn't he want to see the cowboys be good?

The packers and niners are back in the elite 8, we should be there

Why would Garrett release a statement suggesting it was a joint decision? How do you know the meeting didn’t take place?

I suppose one of these leads would be the Arizona game where the offense fondled it's nuts all game and even with late game heroics was too fucking disorganized to handle the situation and then proceeded to nullify a winning kick with a dumbass timeout. Yes, let us bash the defense when the offense couldn't even get 14 points on the board against the almighty Cardinals and completely fucked up the only real success they had at the end of the game.

Just guessing but another is probably the Detroit game where the offense did everything it could to completely fuck the team over by handing out 14 free points. Ah yes, in a game where the defense surrenders 20 and offense scores 30, we should ignore the 2 TDs on behalf of the offense that sunk the team because the defense gave up the last touchdown.

Looks like New England is #3 on the list. Ah, the game where holding Tom Brady to his 2nd lowest point total of year isn't good enough because the offense decided to put up the 2nd shittiest scoring game against the Patriots in all of last regular season. Only outdone by the Chiefs by the way. A game where 4 turnovers produced by the defense just isn't good enough because the offense turned TWO 1st and goal situations into FGs. The first of these, 1st and goal from the 7 turned into 3rd and 18 and a FG. The other, 1st and goal from the 10, passing 3 times into 4th and 8 and a FG. FUCK YOU DEFENSE! Why couldn't you avoid that last touchdown, holding the patriots to almost 20 points less than they averaged on the season. Fucking assholes!

And how could we forget the season opener against the Jets. The blocked punt for the TD. The turnover on the opponents 2 yard, taking points off the board. The late interception that all but gave the Jets a free FG for the win. How the fuck could the defense allow such shit. Giving up 17 points is simply unacceptable.

These games all fall squarely on the defense for sure. Nevermind that Dallas only put up 16 against against a middle of the road New England defense, forcing 3 turnovers on defense and getting another on special teams. Nevermind that Dallas only scored 13 against a middle of the road Arizona defense and butchered the win. Nevermind that Dallas' offense handed 14 free points to the Lions and nevermind that it was specials teams and the offense that handed 10 of the Jets 17 fourth quarter points while taking off points for Dallas because of a turnover on the Jets 2. None of these matter and you wanna know why.............no matter how good the defense played for the majority of the game and how much the offense fucked up and flailed around, the defense made the last mistakes and that's all that matters.

The defense made the last mistake, dbair. And that's all that matters.

I think Dallas is a DE away from being able to run a very active 4-3.

Ware being the weakside DE. Ratliff, Lissemore and Hatcher manning DT other DE IMO has to be a bigger guy to defend the run. Carter, Lee and Sims. I think if they go 4-3 Sims will be resigned.

Margus Hunt anyone?

Yea, Garrett is staying.

Jason Garrett: The decision has been made to move forward in a different direction philosophically

Jason Garrett has released a statement regarding the firing of Rob Ryan:

"I want to express my appreciation to Rob for all of his efforts and contributions to the Cowboys over the past two years. At this time, the decision has been made to move forward in a different direction philosophically on defense. I have an immense amount of respect for Rob as a person and as a football coach and I wish him and his family the very best."

Ryan's defense gave up the most yards in team history this season as opponents averaged 355.4 yards per game. The Cowboys allowed an average of 22.4 points per game. They had 34 sacks, seven interceptions and nine forced fumbles.

Every player and/or coach seems to have philosophical difference with Garrett.

If Cowboys move to a 4-3 defense ...

January, 8, 2013

By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

IRVING, Texas – Last week we broached the possibility of the Cowboys moving to a 4-3 as part of the “unconventional move,” owner and general manager Jerry Jones alluded to on his KRLD-FM radio show.

Now comes word from Jason Garrett in a statement regarding Rob Ryan’s dismissal about a “move forward in a different direction philosophically on defense,” which seems to indicate the Cowboys will be moving to a 4-3 base defense.

So where do the Cowboys turn for their next defensive coordinator if they move to a 4-3?

Monte Kiffin resigned at Southern Cal last month with the hopes of returning to the NFL. He is a 4-3 master, using the Tampa-2 scheme that has been used all over the league. He had a tremendous run in Tampa Bay with players such as Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp, Ronde Barber and John Lynch.

Dave Wannstedt was Buffalo’s defensive coordinator last season. He was not helped by a turnover-prone offense and an ineffective Mario Williams. There are obvious ties to the Cowboys from his time with Jimmy Johnson in the early 1990s. He helped direct some top defenses in Miami as well that featured aggressive cornerback play.

Lovie Smith learned from Kiffin, coordinated a Super Bowl defense in St. Louis and had a long run in Chicago. The Bears defenses forced a ton of turnovers in his tenure, including five Tony Romo interceptions last October. He is a head coaching candidate in Philadelphia and possibly San Diego.

The Cowboys have been a base 3-4 team since 2005 but have not abandoned the 4-3 with their sub package work either under Bill Parcells, Wade Phillips or Ryan.

As noted last week, a move to a 4-3 might not be too difficult and might be necessary if the Cowboys cannot afford to keep outside linebacker Anthony Spencer. DeMarcus Ware would simply be in a three-point stance all the time (as could Spencer if they kept him). Jay Ratliff could move to defensive tackle with Jason Hatcher. They like Tyrone Crawford’s potential.

At linebacker, Sean Lee can play middle and Bruce Carter can play the weak side. They would need a strong-side linebacker but perhaps Alex Albright could get in the mix there as well.

Is jerry really this stupid? The guy had some legit stats about how poorly the offense performed. That 23% line was killer.

Me thinks this is either due to ego or contract size. Jerry would have to shell out $8 mil for Ginger plus another $14+ million for a quality coach over these next two seasons. I think he's being a huge jew and trying to patch stuff since we only came one game away.

Luckily, the schedule next season is brutal, so he won't have that "one game away" excuse. They will surely lose the games in bold below, and probably 2-3 more depending on how well St Louis, NYG, and Philly improve.

Home: N.Y. Giants, Philadelphia, Washington, Green Bay, Minnesota, Denver,
Oakland, St. Louis

Away: N.Y. Giants, Philadelphia, Washington, Chicago, Detroit, Kansas City,
San Diego, New Orleans
