You don't honestly believe that saying cracker is anywhere where close to using the N Bomb do you?
The name comes from when we cracked the whips on their backs. I have been called it and just laugh in their face.

I've never cracked a whip on anyone's back.

I remember reading that was an assumption. There are a lot of historical references that it came from the fact that very poor white people could only afford and were often seen eating crackers. White "city" people referred to the poor white people of the south as Crackers. Black people took to the word to distinguish the difference in classes.

After researching it I see a lot of people feeling it was from the whip cracking like you said. I just remember a history professor in college (the first time) showing us a documentary on the poor white southerners pre and post Civil War.

You know who gives that word all its power? The people who clutch their chests every time it's heard, like they're about to meet their maker. Doesn't matter what color they are.

You want to know why cracker doesn't have that same power? Because most people DON'T GIVE A SHIT.

Southern folks really likes crackers. White saltine is my fav. A Ritz just doesn't have the ability to go with my meals.

Maybe being suppressed for 100 years has something to do with? To me it's a word that white people just shouldn't use regardless of if blacks use it. Cracker is not a offensive term. I have yet to meet someone that was actually offended by the term.

Off topic question. Any chance Blacks are more athletic because all the work they did during the slave times? Did their genetics adapt?

Heard that Riley Cooper has alleged that since this story broke, he feels so guilty that he can't eat and can't sleep.

Give me a fucking break with the dramatics.

GMAFB. First of all, the word is OPRESSED, get it right.

Second, most blacks alive today have no idea what even segregation was like, much less "suppression". To try and use that argument is shallow and ignorant.

Cracker is not offensive... precisely. For the exact reason I gave above. Glad you are paying attention.

Honkey doesn't exactly raise the collective blood pressure either.

Fact is, some people go through life looking for something to be offended about.

You can't run around all day calling each other the N word then act all aghast and insulted when a white person says it.

Is it a horrible word? Sure. There's a lot of horrible words out there.

Should the use of the word ruin someones life? No.

Not when probably a half hour after you heard Riley say it, someone claiming to be offended jumped in their car and jammed to songs dropping the N-word, calling women bitches, etc.

He's not a slave. He still has rights.

Actually, first amendment rights extend to government actions only. The eagles and nfl are under no obligation to let an employee say whatever he wants without repercussions.

Ok well, I'm sure black players have let the same word slip when they were miked up.

That's OK though.

No. I have never understood how a society can preach that violence is bad, and words aren't sticks and stones, then complty support people who lose their sh1t over a single word. It is literally the only word where an entire race is expected to get violent upon hearing that.

I never understood how it was tolerated. Go fuck yourself, it is a word. The ironic thing is the most racist and the most non-racist are the only ones comfortable using the word.

Personally my opinion is a mix of jon88 and a guy who actually does have a significant amount of black friends.

Probably some genetic adaptation... And it may also have something to do with slave-owners breeding the biggest slaves together specifically to make stronger slaves.

Slavery ended a long time ago. Let's move past it.

Like pep said, they were bred to be strong. The weak ones didn't make it.

On First Take this morning, they were saying that Cowboy players were saying that Cooper would have players after him this year. I think the whole damn thing is silly. The Eagles or the NFL shouldn't have any say on what Cooper says or does on his off hours unless it is illegal. The double standard that is used between whites and blacks using the word and who can or can not use it is stupid too. If the black community is so damn offended, they should stop using the word themselves. The word is used in the South quite a bit. Most of the time it is not meant as an insult, it is used
to describe black people. It may be used out of ignorance and that is no
excuse, but many people use it out of habit.

I will be the first to say that the older people where I live may use the word out of hate. Hell, I was raised with people using the word many times in everyday conversation. It is very common. My whole problem with all this outrage because if the use of the word is that it does nothing more than any other words used to insult a certain group of people. I may be different, but actions, not words piss me off. It is damn stupid to limit the use of any word. It is not going to work. People need to quit being offended and grow up.

Someone on the Fan had a good point this morning: Cooper is getting more heat for this than he would for a domestic abuse case.

What he did was very stupid, but it's kind of sad that there's more hate over this than there would be if he'd beaten up a woman.

It's ridiculous. Why is it OK for blacks to say it all the time but not whites?

Yeah I doubt very much that Marcus Vick would be putting up a large for anyone to light him up if he had beaten up his girlfriend.

Like I said... priorities.
