Pretty much what I expected for a first half of the first preseason game. A few things I liked in first half:

Weeden had a nice half, wished he would have thrown downfield more on that final drive, but he did make several impressive throws and didn't make any bad throws. Pretty confident that at the very least Weeden will be a capable backup QB here, and he's coming at a fraction of the cost of orton.

Liked what I saw from the OL, both the starters and reserves.

Liked Randle and R Williams, that's going to be an interesting battle. Both Hanna and Escobar did some decent things.

Dwayne Harris has no shot of the 3rd WR position if he is going to brick hand a perfectly thrown 15-20 yd slant

Defense was horrible other than 3 or 4 plays. I know there's not a lot of guys who were projected "starters" out there any at all, but the tackling was lousy and the run defense was atrocious save a couple of plays.

One pet peeve of mine the last several years and yes it might sound ticky tacky or even irrelevant, but the un-tucked jerseys really bother me. You don't see the successful teams doing this. Redball has said he doesn't want the players worrying about "minor stuff like that" but I maintain it's a important part of disciplined football, sweating the fucking details especially when they're really this simple.

When you combine this optic with poor tackling, missed assignments, lots of penalties and so on, it sort of adds up and points back to the REAL problem with this team really since Jimmy left - lack of discipline.

Going to bed. Will watch 4th qtr tomorrow.

I know a lot of guys are hurt and didn't play, but they (our Cowboys) have so many players out there on this defense that simply CANT PLAY a lick that its pretty sad.

I'm also disappointed in how piss poor the tackling looks.

This is really eye opening. A team that basically has had glorified walk throughs every day of camp has this many guys MIA already.

Jimmy ran absolutely brutal camps and did it in tremendous heat, and guys never got hurt as much or missed as much practice time as Garrett's Cowboys have.

Cowboys to sit a host of players

August, 7, 2014
By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

SAN DIEGO – Tony Romo will not be the only player to skip the Dallas Cowboys’ preseason opener against the San Diego Chargers on Thursday.

Jason Witten, DeMarco Murray, Dez Bryant and Lance Dunbar are expected to be healthy scratches, while several injured players will sit.

Defensive end George Selvie (groin), defensive tackle Terrell McClain (ankle), defensive tackle Ben Bass (hamstring), defensive end Ben Gardner (shoulder), linebacker Rolando McClain (hamstring, quadriceps), linebacker Will Smith (groin), safety Matt Johnson (hamstring), cornerback Sterling Moore (groin), cornerback Morris Claiborne (knee), safety Jakar Hamilton (concussion), wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe (concussion) and tackle Darrion Weems (shoulder) will not play.

Safety Barry Church’s availability is in question because of a mild ankle sprain. He did not practice Monday or Tuesday but will be a coaches’ decision Thursday night, as could defensive tackle Henry Melton, who is coming back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament but has not missed a day of practice. Cornerback Tyler Patmon (hip) and tight end Jordan Najvar (abdominal strain) will be game-time decisions.

Cornerback Brandon Carr is expected to join the team for the first time in training camp after the team returns to Oxnard, California. Carr missed the first two weeks of camp to be with his ailing mother, who died last week.

Yeah, that's been a concern of mine. We seem to be going the extremely cautious route this year. I suspect Jerry, and maybe Garrett too, went into this year trying not to have so many injuries this year so they're protecting everyone. Which means fewer injuries, but also a softer and less prepared team.

Nice opening showing. Haha.

I'd be encouraged by the fact that many starters on defense sat but they're not much better than the subs.
