as he attempts to return from anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, a brain disease that left him in a coma for three months last year.
Bullshit... The disease didn't cause the coma, he was put into a medically induced coma to safe his body from further damage due to the violent convulsions.
Cowboys' moves: QB Caleb Hanie, WR Chris Boyd, TE Jordan Najvar (waived/injured), G Wayne Tribue, DL Adewale Ojomo, DE Ben Gardner (injured reserve), DT Amobi Okoye (reserve/NFI), LB DeVonte Holloman (waived/injured), CB Justin Green (waived injured), S Johnny Thomas (waived injured), S Matt Johnson (waived injured), P Tom Hornsey, LS Casey Kreiter

I've paid little attention to pre-season, but what happened to Gardner. Weren't the dumps at the zone anointing him a steal on draft day?

no it doesn't.
The Article said:
He will be unable to play in the first six games of the regular season but he will be able to continue his conditioning work as he attempts to return from anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, a brain disease that left him in a coma for three months last year.
It is reasonable to say, yes it does.

a brain disease that left him in a coma for three months last year.
Left him in a coma =! caused a coma. The existence of the brain disease literally left him in a coma for three months.

I don't find it reasonable to mince words like you're doing on this and on Stephen Jones quotes. You can read it however you want, I guess.

But, that is not what the article says. YOU communicate more clearly than this writer does.

The article leads one to believe the coma was a symptom of the disease. And if one didn't know better, that is what one would come away thinking.

For the edification of the reader here, and in case some might not have known the particulars, I added the actual circumstances of the coma.

Except for the fact that Wilbur is a vastly better football player than Wilson is.

Wilson was absolute road kill vs the run

Not sure what you are seeing. Wilbur is lumbering and has no attack. We already have several space fillers who have no acceleration. Wilson flew into the backfield around the corner. We need speed especially at the DE corner. That sort of third down DE doesn't need to worry about the run. Pin the ears and sack.
