I know you're the type of fan that, when asked how much pressure you think each player got last game, replied with "I don't care... i knowz what i seezezz!"

..and now you don't think ability to generate pressure has an outcome on the game?

Sigh.. ok. lol

Oh snap. You smilied me.

DE
2 LBs - if carter can start, I will count him as 1
1 CB
1 safety

That totals 5 new starters on defense - hopefully carter can start so we need to find 4 in the offseason. 2 in the draft and 2 in free agency.

We need 2 new interior olinemen. 1 in the draft and 1 in free agency.

It's also obvious our players are too stupid to grasp the complexity of Ryan's defense in a lockout shortened season..if Ryan comes back, a full offseason should help our mentally challenged players.

I did, but be reasonable. If we generate more pressure, our secondary would have a much easier job, so pressures most certainly do have an effect on the outcome of the game.

The problem most of the time for us this year, from what i can see, is that we have 2 OLB's who are great at getting off the ball and getting upfield, but when they are about to get there, the opposing QB always has plenty of room to step up to avoid the rush because we can't ever seem to collapse the pocket at all.

They arn't, but it starts in the middle, and when you have such an undersized NT.. you give yourself almost no chance. There's a reason almost every other team in the NFL that runs the 34 has a 330+ lbs guy in the middle. Ratliff is getting knocked back pretty much every play, and its not his fault. We put him at DE next year and he doesn't have to face constant double teams by the C and OG's, he could cause alot more chaos, especially with a huge NT that can get a push next to him.

You would think that Ryan would understand this being that as a DC for both the Raiders and Browns, he had such behemoths as Gerrard Warren (325), Shaun Rogers (340), and Ahtyba Rubin (325), anchoring the middle.

I think we'll see a behemoth in here next year. I think he knew Ratliff was a very good player and wanted to see if he could get the job done. Its also hard to go out and get everybody you want in a shortened offseason and FA period, so im thinking that's why we stayed with Rat.

Again? I was hoping we were going to sign him last season but it never happened. If we had signed him and Tulloch we'd be in good shape right now. Two very solid players just coming into their prime.

Soliai had signed a one year deal I believe. Much like Elam and Sensebaugh at the time. Tulloch is also a free agent but we already have Carter in the fold.

I'm glad we have Carter in the fold, but he hasn't exactly shown much of anything. Bringing in Tulloch would be a smart move.

Create some healthy competition.

I'd rather we bring in a good free agent, even at a positon that isn't necessarily a need (although again, Bruce Carter isn't a sure thing) than settling for a "Sensabaugh" just because we have a need there.

Well he hasn't shown much of anything like Lee didn't show much of anything in his rookie year. I like how they are bringing Carter along, in the same manner that they brought Lee along.

I hope Carter turns out to be as good as Lee, but to predicate how fast he turns into being a player by the timeline that it took Lee to progress is iffy.

Wow, except Soliai's one year deal was for 12 friggin million. That's pretty steep, even for a very good NT. If we could sign him to a couple years at around 8 mil per year i'd do that.

Same with Tulloch. We're going to need more than 2 ILB's anyway and Tulloch is just coming into his prime and is a tough, hard nosed guy that i really like, and his one year deal was for only around 3 mil so it wouldn't break the bank. I have no idea why he lasted so long in FA to be honest. He's had over 150 tackles the last 2 years and been a very productive player. Won't reach that many stops this year, but still.. i'd jump on him if the Lions don't extend him.

Which they probably will. Still fun to dream of having 2 ILBs who can get enough depth in their drops and excel at covering TEs and *gasp* FBs.

It's not a prediction or a claim. Just pointing out the similarities between the two and the stage of their development. Both came into the league as 2nd rounders that were rated as 1st rounder. They were both injured and that delayed them for a year. They didn't rush Lee, and they are not rushing Carter. Carter is a freakish athlete, as is Lee.

I forgot about that shit. They had franchised him. I wouldn't have done that.

Its a situation i don't understand. They seemed to really want the kid, franchised him, and now won't even talk contract extension with him when all he's teammates heep his praises whenever they're asked about him.

I don't get it Miami..

You never know.. no one seemed to think he was worth a damn coming off 2 straight 150 tackle seasons. Wouldn't shock me to see the Lions go a different direction.

You wouldn't think the Dolphins would be letting Soliai go either, but they apparently don't want him back. Who knows what some teams are thinking sometimes.
