The sky is blue. No, prove it! Links! Articles! IM chat logs!
Can somebody substantiate the rumor that Gurode does not make the line calls, I have yet to see this be proven.
The only thing I can remember is some article saying Kosier makes some of the line calls and nothing about Gurode struggling in this regard.
I'll give you TE and QB.
CB goes deeper than 3... Our depth at RB is questionable. ILB also unproven. OLB... Butler. Thats it. Hello safety. WR = horrid. OT is laughable. DL, quantity doesn't mean quality.
I thinks its been brought up quite a few times, Kosier makes some of the line calls. I dont know that they have ever explained how the job us divided up, but I do recall some chatter about it.
Offensive line calls vary in their complexity and how they are used as part of the offensive scheme.
It may be as simple as the center identifying the middle linebacker so the entire line knows that player must be included as part of their pass protection, or it can be as complex as changing the entire blocking scheme on one side of the line at the point of attack.
In the first example, if you decide that your five linemen are going to be responsible for the four inside pass rushers and the middle linebacker, it is important to identify the middle linebacker -- or the player being designated as the MLB -- so the line knows that three blockers will be on that side of the ball and two will be on the other side.
On a running play, your offensive tackle may make a call on a dive play that changes the blocking at the point of attack from straight drive blocking to a cross block with the tackle going first.
It could be a call from the tackle that changes angle blocking for the off-tackle play to a double team and the on-guard kicking out.
The key is that the player making the call understands the offense enough to know when it is best to change the blocking scheme. All the other players need to be smart enough to pick up and execute the new blocking assignments.
Alot of teams dont have 1 good CB, let alone 3 capable of starting.

I dont see how ILB is "unproven". Lee's probably going to win the starting ILB job next to James, and that leaves Brooking as a backup. Bruce Carter will probably play the last 10 weeks of the season, and he should becomes a valuable situational player.
