Gruden couldn't deal with Davis, but he's willing to dive back in to a similar situation with Jones???

I don't think so.

I tried to tell you phuckers.

Gruden , IMO, is ideal for this current roster. He also is ideal as far as dealing with Jerry and the media scrutiny of the Cowboys.
Payton, if available, is option 1 but Gruden is 1B.

I approve of this message.

You just repeated what everyone else said, only in the blandest and most boring way possible.

Thanks, Dbair.

I'm not a big fan of Gruden.

Plus -- Despite Gruden's SB win, Gruden lacks the gravitas. Which means Gruden couldn't curb Jerry's meddling ways.

I think Payton stands a better chance of gaining/demanding more control.

I don't think so.

Older and wiser now. He will have control written into his deal. Real control, not Jason Garrett pretend control.

Any big name HC who comes here except maybe worthless Holmgren, will insist on it. The jackasses at the Zone are the only ones in the world who don't automtically identify Jones' meddling as the biggest issue here. No one worth a damn is coming here without guarantees that Jones has to back the hell off.

Al Davis got rid of Gruden..im not so certain - at least im not aware - that Gruden had an issue with Davis..or that they couldnt work well together..my understanding is that Grudens contract was expiring (a year down the line) and davis didnt feel Gruden warranted the type of pay day Gruden was asking for

There has to be a clause that he stays away from the lockerroom if I'm Payton or Gruden. He's not the head coach anymore.

Personally, I think the team would be lost if Jerry Jones didn't address them post game in the locker room.

Tampa offered multiple first round picks and Al Davis got to keep Callahan so continuity was in play.

It was probably the last good trade Davis made. Super Bowl ass whipping notwithstanding.

That loss is on Callahans dumbass for not switching things up.

True story

Davis wanted Gruden gone bc of the cost and he also didnt like Gruden's offensive scheme.

none of this matters...the argument that he didnt/cant work w davis or jones doesnt work

sean payton doesnt have any control either..why do people think these head coaches will just come in here demanding shit theyve never had before? just because they yell at slow, dumb football players on sundays?

Everything I've read suggests that Gruden really wants to get back on coaching but he's holding out for the perfect job. Now throw in the King/Dan Patrick stuff that there may have already been conversations and it makes me conclude that Gruden wants the ideal job.. talented roster, big time team, and the ability to run things his way. I think he's too smart to not insist on control and/or Jones backing off. Otherwise, take one of the many other offers you've had.

I was also thinking that this "leak" about going after Gruden is also sending a message to Payton that this offer.. Cowboys HC, big contract, roster control...is also available to Payton without risking getting in trouble for actually contacting/negotiating with Payton.
