Orakpo on ESPN Snub: “I’m Gonna Kill the League Next Season”

By David Sabia»Football News Now Staff Writer» March 23, 2011 - 6:33 pm

When ESPN‘s NFL bloggers created a list of the top 10 pass rushers in the league, they omitted Washington Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo.

Upon finding out that he did not win a single vote for anyone on the eight-person panel, Orakpo made his own prediction.

“I seen some list rankin the top 10 pass rushers and left me off,” Orakpo tweeted via Pro Football Talk. ” F–K THEM im gonna kill the league next season.”

Considering Orakpo has tallied 19.5 sacks in two pro seasons, making the Pro Bowl each year, he has reason to be peeved. On the other hand, his 8.5 sacks in 2010 ranked a mere 24th in the NFL.

Either way, Orakpo is a menace when getting after the quarterback. This will only give him more incentive to prove everyone wrong.

He's no Trent Cole.

Or Justin Tuck. Or Osi Umenyouria. Or Robert Mathis.etc. Many of which can lay claim to being on that list more than Orakpo and they haven't bitched about it.

You notice that Redskins' players often have the same mindset as Redskins' fans?

He needs to learn more than one pass rush move to be a top pass rusher.

Well he doesn't need to have more than one pass rush move. He'd blow the sack records away in a few season IF he din't get held ALL THE TIME. At least that's what Redskins' fans will tell you. You know Orakpo leads the league in holding calls against him. At least that is what Redskins' fans tell ya.

Free shut him down in the first game and he needed up moving to the other side where he had success against a lousy Barron. The guy is just another overrated loudmouth Redskin bum, reminds me of Lavar Arrington, but at least Arrington could play the run and was decent in coverage, Orakpo is lousy in both those areas.

As things shake out more and more, Tyron Smith is growing on me to where I would be alright if we took him at #9. In fact he's quickly becoming my first choice. I still would like to trade down a bit and get extra picks and still get him, but itf that's not in the cards then go with him at #9.

How many times has he had Romo directly in his crosshairs only to WHIFF !!!!!

That'sa the thing. Redskins' fans claim that he is always being held, but if that were true---which it isn't, that doesn't mean that if he wasn't held, he would have gotten the sack. It's just like a defender committing pass interference, it doesn't mean that if the defender had not committed the infraction, that the receiver would have caught the ball.

He just doesn't have the athletic ability not to get juked so easily....Ware and Osi can't teach him that.

No Worries about Mr. BullRush he's full of Bull$#!t

Here is a very interesting and telling stat about Orakpo. He has played 12 games against the division (NFC East) and guess how many sacks he's netted? .5. In 2 years against the division he has only ONE-HALF (1/2) SACK.

That's surprising to say the least. A half sack in two years against teams you play twice a year is pathetic.

Nice find.

Damn, that IS pretty surprising. Obviously he's never done jack against the Cowboys...but .5 total? Wow.

I'm not making it up. Go and look. He got that half sack against the Giants. Last year he went totally sackless against the entire division. Just wanted to post that because how Redskins' fans were going on about how Orakpo would beat Free like a drum. Didn't happen. Free shut him down every time.

I wouldn't say he's done nothing against the Cowboys. He forced Barron to tackle him on that last play, giving the Redskins the win.

He's a really good pass rusher. Wish we had him.

Barron did not have to hold Orakpo. If Barron had minimal intelligence all he had to do was simply push Orakpo and redirect his momentum because Orakpo came at Barron on Barron's outside. Orakpo would not have gotten the sack, because Romo still would have stepped up into the pocket and avoided the sack. And no I wouldn't want Orakpo. He has only one move with the pass rush and he is lousy against the run and in coverage. People badmouth Spencer but at least he excels in those two areas and I would rather have a player that is good in coverage and excels against the run and is average in pass rush, than to have sonmeone that while a great pass rush is a lousy against both the run and in coverage.

So anyway.....

Orakpo forced a hold from the inferior Cowboy and won the game for the Redskins.

Very good player. Wish we had him.

Clay went with the 26th pick in '09 he is great or very good imo.

Orakpo was picked with the 13th pick and I'd say he is good but the jury is still out.
