With Kyle Kosier still recovering from a sprained knee ligament, the Dallas Cowboys plan on starting Montrae Holland at left guard in Sunday's season opener at Washington.
This will be Holland's 49th career start but his first since Dec. 7, 2008, with the Cowboys. He has been inactive in all 21 games, including playoffs, since that start.

``It's a big thing to be in the mix instead of starting on the sideline,'' Holland said on Monday. ``I'm very excited.''

Holland started at left guard in the final two exhibitions. Coach Wade Phillips said Holland played well in both games, but he had two false-start penalties in each game.

``That's not going to be an issue,'' Holland said of the penalties.

Holland is OK, and that's about the extent of it.

Dallas will need to be drafting a guard early on come next April.

This needs to be Kosier's last year. He's not dependable at all.

Yeah, and he needs to end up being a good player too. Whoever scouts lineman for this team needs to be demoted to janitor.

During the Parcell's watch I'd say yeah... definitely demote.

I'm on the fence when it comes to the current regime. Let's see what happens with Brewster, Young and Costa.

The backups we have now suck. I don't have to wait and see. I'm not going to sit here looking like an idiot hoping that stiffs like Brewster and Costa pan out to be future anchors.

I'd completely revamp everything we do with the OL. From scouting to coaches to players.

Exactly. I'm hoping we get something along the offensive line early in the draft and something else to the line through free agency.

Right now we basically outsource. We let other teams scout lineman, wait for them to become free agents, and then offer them huge contracts.

Here's a video of Phil Costa in college in the weightroom

I'm surprised the scouting department paid any attention to him and not some pussy who'll be a bust in a few years.

Costa seems like a scrapper, but his arms are too short to be a starting center in this league, IMO.

But if I had to pick one of the three to pan out, it would be him.

I'll take small arms vs questionable brain any day.

Brewster has Jerry reach stank on him. Eeeeeew.

Young is a guy who showed up at ND with a ton of hype and never lived up to it. He wasn't anything more than a decent college T. I don't know how anyone can expect him to excel stepping up to the big leagues. I think he's a career backup.

Well if we didn't cut Petitti, Jacob Rogers, Peterman, Fabini, Marten, and E.J. Whitley--- all these guys Parcells had drafted, but instead kept them, they'd be hitting their PRIME right now and being all world.
