Blanton should be starting game 5. Halladay should be pitching tonight. You pretty much guarantee a win in that case.

Even if you lose game 5, you'd still only have to win two games at home. It's a lot easier than losing tonight and trying to win three straight.

Horrible decision by the hick.

Looks like it may be the Giants and the Rangers in the World Series, wow.

Like I said, horrible decision by Manuel.

I didn't think we'd even win the division this year. I just think it's hard to get up for another run after back to back world series berths and a championship. I don't care who you are, you're just not as hungry as the teams that haven't gotten there yet.

Having said that, the Giants would be, in my opinion, the worst world series representative I've ever seen. They'd struggle to be .500 in the American League. They're on a nice run right now, but I'd imagine they'd get molested in the world series.

MLB must have been smiling when these championship series started. It looked like a sure thing to have a rematch of the Yanks/Phils with both teams with a shot to win two titles within 3 years. Mega power vs. mega power. A dynasty at stake. Ratings bonanza right there.

Instead we're real close to their worst nightmare. Rangers/Giants. Must watch in Texas and California. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz around the rest of the country.

Oh well, the Yanks can't win it every year.

Even though I wouldn't mind it. It just isn't good for the game.

I wonder what the ratings will be for this World Series matchup.

Not very good IMO. Boring...

It'll be one of the least watched World Series in recent years.

I'll be rooting for Cliff Lee and the Rangers. I hope they sweep those San Fran ******s.

NEW YORK -- In the wake of the disappointing end to New York's season, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has fired pitching coach Dave Eiland.

Picking Up The Pinstripes

The Yankees need to retool after an ALCS defeat. Tell us which ones you'd keep -- and which ones you'd cut.
Vote: Take 'Em or Trash 'Em?

"I'm not going into any detail about what the reasons were," Cashman said on Monday.

Cashman said it had nothing to do with how poorly the Yankees pitched in the American League Championship Series, where they were eliminated by the Texas Rangers in six games. Cashman termed the decision a "private" one.

Toward the end of the first half, Eiland missed nearly a month with an undisclosed personal problem. Eiland's absence coincided with the downfall of A.J. Burnett's season.

Cashman said he thinks Eiland will get another job in the majors as a pitching coach.

"Dave spent his entire coaching career with the Yankees organization, and there is little doubt the impact he had on a great number of pitchers during his tenure," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said in a statement. "He was a passionate and knowledgeable pitching coach on the major league level, and he played a valuable role in our team's achievements in recent years. I wish him continued success moving forward as his baseball career continues to evolve."

Cashman said is planning to start negotiations on a new contract with the agent for Girardi on Tuesday. The plan is to sign Girardi, and then the Yankees will figure out who will replace Eiland.

Cliff Lee's Wife Offended By Yankees Fans

10:01am: Two years ago, C.C. Sabathia's wife Amber was said to prefer the Giants. Yankees GM Brian Cashman was able to pitch the couple on New York and close the deal on a seven-year, $161MM contract. He may have a tougher task with Cliff Lee's wife Kristen, who did not have a good time at Yankee Stadium during the playoffs. From USA Today's Bob Nightengale:

Perhaps the Rangers' greatest sales pitch simply was having Kristen sit in the visiting family section at Yankee Stadium during the playoffs. She says there were ugly taunts. Obscenities. Cups of beer thrown. Even fans spitting from the section above. "The fans did not do good things in my heart," Kristen says. "When people are staring at you, and saying horrible things, it's hard not to take it personal."

It's impossible to say how Kristen Lee's experience will factor into the lefty's decision. As Nightengale notes, Sabathia and A.J. Burnett (and perhaps their wives) are ready to recruit Lee this offseason. Plus, it's unlikely Yankees fans would taunt their own star pitcher's wife.

The Yankees' main selling point, of course, will have to be money and contract years. The Rangers have all the intangibles in their favor, especially the team's World Series appearance and proximity to the Lee family's Little Rock, Arkansas home. We've seen players leave millions on the table before, though the Rangers plan to be aggressive in the bidding.

Oh, isn't that too bad.

Oh well, we don't get him then we don't get him.

Because Texas won't repeat so it's his loss.

He probably wasn't going to leave anyways.

Fluke championship.

I respect the hell out of their pitching. Starting rotation and bullpen. But their lineup is shat. Journeyman after journeyman.

They all got hot at the right time.

Pat Burrell has a 4 leaf clover up his ass.

He was basically a non factor in the world series the Phillies won. And he has now done the same for the Giants.
