And the point isn't the effect the illegal thing has, it's that making it illegal only ensures that the worst parts of society will have it, while responsible people don't.

I don't own any guns, but I'm not at all down for this generation tinkering with foundations it largely doesn't even recognize anymore. They've served this country and previous generations very well and if generation Me is having a problem with itself, like shooting each other up and being all around sociopathic, it should look in at itself for the cause, rather than resorting to blaming the age-old solid foundations that have made this country strong.

By the way, I fail to see how having police or armed/trained security at schools is a bad thing.

It's a waste of police resources because school shootings are so rare. More logical to arm teachers and other school personnel who want to be armed and can pass the "concealed carry" certification course.
