I heard Sal Paolantonio on the radio this afternoon and he reported that the opposition expected today from some of the owners to the new CBA Goodell is trying to get through never really materialized. Says this is just about over and there will end up being over 450 players available in a free agency period that figures to be about two and half weeks before camps start.

Brace yourself. This is about to get crazy.

It'd be nice if we were prepared for it. Instead of scrambling to create cap space.

Thank God for Stephen Jones.

I'm more than confident we'll be able to sign the players we want, without any issue.

Thanks to Stephen Jones.

I know you hate Stephen too but compared to Jerry, he is a much better option. Jerry's ego is the biggest problem we have.

I'm not convinced Stephen doesn't have the same ego.

He's done nothing during his time here to make me think he's anything other than his father's son.

The Deion story makes me think Stephen is the smarter, big picture guy.

i dont have any problems with stephen jones.

I think the combination of Stephen, Tom Ciskowski and Jason Garrett has the potential to be really good.

You have to fit the talent to the scheme and it seemed this draft was a really good start. I imagine the defensive free agents will continue that.

Other than the fact that our personnel has never been good enough and our cap shape is the worst in the league....and he's directly in charge of both, I don't have a problem with him either.

Stephen essentially got rid of TO after Jerry ridiculously extended him. Why he hasn't done the same with Roy though makes me question him.

Our cap shape is the worst in the league? What.

how long have you watched football for. Our cap will be fine even if they come in at 136 or so like they are proposing on the new cba.

There are lots of ways to get under the cap.

by the way the reason our cap is to the brink is because we have good players and we keep them. Was the team supposed to let romo, witten, ware, james, newman, gurode etc..walk? The marion barber deal worked out poorly and the roy williams trade was a gamble that didnt work. Outside of those two the only other contract I think that has been bad has been the roy williams the safety second deal. That turned out bad....but again...were we supposed to let him walk.

The cap is the last worry this team has.

and as far as being in charge of personnel, thats debatable. he is the salary cap handler along with todd williams without question but I am not so sure he is the top dog personnel wise no matter what his title says. I think the personnel decisions are group oriented and tom ciskowski, judd garrett along with Jason and stephen and jerry are all in it together.

The Deion story?

Explain.

The story goes Stephen had a plan in place to keep the Cowboys under the cap and be able to re-sign the essential players. Jerry wanted to sign Deion regardless. Stephen fought against it and even physically pinned Jerry up against a wall and asked Jerry if he realized what he was doing to the franchise. Jerry (and his ego) won out. We signed Deion, lost some valuable free agents, and went into Salary Cap hell for several years.

So Stephen pinned Jerry up against the wall to try to prevent bringing in the guy that shifted the balance of power back to Dallas and won them a 3rd championship?

I must be missing something.

Stephen's the same guy who publicly challenged Parcells' power in front of the team. That tells me all I need to know about that idiot. He's a POS just like his father.

A lot of Jerry supporters say this line..cough, cough Hostile, dbair...cough... but none of them will admit (or accept) that in the end, Jerry has the final say. He gets swayed from time to time but he will still do what he wants to do most of the time.

This was included in the thread I just posted in around the league....

Proposed CBA Details

Details of a proposed collective bargaining agreement being pitched to NFL owners Tuesday, according to sources:

• Players get 48 percent of "all revenue."

• Players' share will never dip below 46.5 percent, under new formula being negotiated.

• Teams required to spend close to 100 percent of the salary cap.

• Rookie wage scale part of deal but still being "tweaked."

• Four years needed for unrestricted free-agent status. Certain tags will be retained, but still being discussed.

• 18-game regular season designated only as negotiable item and at no point is mandated in deal.

• New 16-game Thursday night TV package beginning in 2012.

• Owners still will get some expense credits that will allow funding for new stadiums.

• Retirees to benefit from improved health care, pension benefits as revenue projected to double to $18 million by 2016.

-- ESPN's Chris Mortensen, John Clayton and Adam Schefter

Well we could pretend it's another way and ignore the titles, I suppose. But I'll deal in reality.

Stephen Jones is the right hand man of the fake GM. He is the director of personnel. And he's failed at it since he's been there.

He's also the cap man. And we're a 6 win team with more 2011 money invested than any other team.

So.....why is it again that I should think Stephen is even remotely good at anything football?

While Deion did help us in 95, it was short-sighted. We lost some starters and we were in salary cap hell for years. the Quincy Carter/Ryan Leaf/Chad Hutchinson handing off the ball to Troy Hambrick were some long, lean years.

If douchebag means factual, guilty as charged.

I deal in facts. Whether they are for or against the Cowboys.

You spin everything, every day of every year, to the positive for Dallas.

Making you with the single most worthless read on any Cowboys board.
