Dan Patrick / Jimmy / HOF / Herschel Walker Trade

Thanks for posting TD. Great interview and it was interesting to hear about his coaching tree that extended beyond Norv and Dave Wanstadt. Jimmy was great at evaluating players, as well as quality coaches. It's really a shame....no telling how many SB's we could have won had he stayed on.

Jerry at it again. Party line is play HOF game because Jimmy being inducted. More like make a buck and get wrinkled prune face in front of as many cameras and microphones as possible to steal attention from the guy that made him look competent for a second.

With free agency frenzy for 2020 let look at what a Hall of Fame Head Coach, Jimmy Johnson, Bob Ackles, Hall of Fame CFL cowboys VP Player Personnel, and John Wooten, soon to be Hall of Fame contributor did in free agency to build the Team of the 90's:
1989 - Signed FA Ray Horton S, Derrick Shepard WR, and Jack Del Rio LB
1990 - Signed FA Cliff Stoudt QB, Tommie Agee FB/RB, Jay Novacek TE, Vison Smith LB, Ken Willis K, and Dale Hellestrae LS
1991 - Signed FA Alfredo Roberts TE, Bob Awalt TE, Alan Veingrad OL, Mickey Pruitt LB and James Washington S
1992 - Signed Derrick Gainer RB, Derek Tennell TE, Frank Cornish C, and Lin Elliott K
1993 - Jason Garrett QB, Lincoln Coleman RB, Tyrone Williams WR, Scott Galbraith TE, Joey Mickey TE, Matt Vanderbeek LB, Joe Fishback S, Elvis "Toast" Patterson CB, John Jett P, Eddie Murray K, and Bernie Kosar QB

The Player Personnel "Triplets" mainly built the team through the draft and with trades. However, their free agent signings made a huge impact. Ray Horton, Jack Del Rio, Tommie Agee, Alfredo Roberts all help the Cowboys return to the playoffs in 1991. James Washington was a Super Bowl starter in 1992 and 1993 (would have been MVP if not for Emmitt Smith). After the Triplets left, Jason Garrett had his claim fame on Thanksgiving Day 1994 and would be rail road as the Cowboys HC in waiting in 2007 and Head Coach 2010-2019. Eddie Murray literrally kicked the Cowboys into home field advantage through out the playoffs and Super Bowl in 1993. Bernie Kosar won games in 1993 and won the NFC Championship game of 1993 when Troy Aikman down with injuries. Dale Hellestrae would long snap for the Cowboys for 10 years and collect 3 Super Bowl rings. Finally Jay Novacek would become Troy Aikman's security blanket becoming an All Pro and Pro Bowl TE winning 3 Super Bowl rings.

Bernie Kosar didnt actually didnt win any "games" in 1993, he relieved Jason Garrett in a close win over Arizona (and played fairly well that day) and the following week vs Atlanta both he and the team were terrible and got beaten badly by a lousy Falcons team (I was at the game).

And Kosar really had nothing to do with the win over San Francisco in the 1993 Championship game. Aikman played a nearly perfect 1st half and had us up 28-7 at the half, and then get knocked out with a brutal concussion at the start of the 2nd half.

Jimmy had a knack for finding talent anywhere, and there were several nice contributors signed via Plan B free agency (and several guys he got off the street). But he built a dynasty through the draft and by raping teams left and right on trades.

What the hell took so long is my question. And you know the system is broken when Jerry ones makes it into the HOF before Johnson.

Yep, no way he fucking hell it was going to be Jones.

I suspected all along it would be Troy or his best friend and longtime defensive coordinator Dave Wannstedt.
Would like to see Irvin and Smith standing alongside of him to complete the picture.
