lol @ u thinking two extra preseason games provides coaches with oodles more evaluating material. Yeah if we take those two games away they might make bad decisions like dropping Danny Woodhead to keep mcKnight, that would be just awful.

Preseason performance plays such a little role in ultimate player evaluation that I wonder if you were making this post just to sound retarded.

You got it half right. sbk just likes to make shit up.

Yes, I'm making it up that the preseason games are the best tools NFL teams have to evaluate the bottom of their rosters.

Seriously. Flush those two douchebags.

No they use them but you are simply talking out your ass if you think that those two games are somehow make or break deals for churning the bottom of the roster. Most of the proving for most of the players on the team is done in practice. Preseason is nice for live action but the coaches are making their decisions on a much greater body of work than what they see in a few plays in those games - which is why every year we see preseason heroes get cut.

If they want more money they should just add two more teams to the playoffs. Seven teams in each conference and only the #1 seed gets a first round bye. They could even be daring with it and add four more teams. The first round bye is a stupid concept.

Yeah, no thanks.

I do.

Alrighty. Good talk.

In other words, you are resistant to change even though you bitch about a lack of change. You have no good reason to oppose a 16-team playoff, you simply don't like the idea. I could prove to you how it would be superior and it would not change your opinion because you don't want change.

This is why I decided to never run for President.

You got all that from me saying I don't like the idea of half the teams from a conference making the playoffs?

Well... okay.

But 2 preseason games severely limits your talent evaluators from developing the bottom of your roster. I think it's a terrible idea supported by owners looking to make more profit and fans who don't understand the game.

I saw this mentioned by someone else, not sure I believe it that much though.

Most teams are going to find spots for their draft picks, especially the early ones. You typically only see late rd picks not make an active roster the first yr.

You might miss on an end of the roster guy here and there from time to time, but whats being cut down is two preseason games. They'd still have extensive practice via mini camp, passing camps and training camp to evaluate guys. They'd still be seeing these guys for extended periods. I'm sure there's some downside there, but I dont hate the idea of only having 2 or 3 preseason games as much as I hate the idea of an 18 game regular season.

What occurs in practice should pale in comparison to what happens in live action in a game setting.

Reducing the games down to two basically gives teams one game to really see their backups with extended playing time. It's simply asinine to expect teams to make judgment calls on players off of one game.

It's a horrible idea. There isn't even a debate to it.

If they go to an 18 game season, then won't the Super Bowl be pushed back to Valentine's Day? Alot of ladies will not like that. Super Bowl or spendinjg Valentine's Weekend/Week with my lady?

You'll have less of a body work to make your personnel decisions on. Common sense tells you you'll make more mistakes. It'll only increase the gap between the well run and poorly run teams, which we reside in the latter.

Not only that, but the first year guys who do stick around will be less prepared to make a contribution the first year. You're not going to devote both games to the backups. You have to get the starters ready. So you got one game to get acclimated to the NFL, kid, before we play for real.

I don't even understand why any NFL fan would want that.

They would most likely start the season two weeks earlier; not extend it. I don't think they want more cold weather games.

No. The regular season would start earlier. And they can always eliminate the bye week between the Championship games and the Super Bowl.

Preseason is nothing but glorified scrimmages. The fans care only because after a long offseason they are so football starved and preseason is meat for them. Why else can they get away with charging the same amount for a preseason game as a regular season game?
