Jerry has gone the minimal route the last 2 off-seasons and decides to Go Big this year.
After upgrading the coaching staff, getting experienced assistants to help Jason Garrett, he gets aggressive in Free Agency.
Following players leave via Free Agency:
Anthony Spencer OLB
Bradie James ILB
Keith Brooking ILB
Abe Elam SS
Martellus Bennett TE
Alan Ball CB
Frank Walker CB
Montrae Holland G
Derrick Dockery G
Sammy Morris RB
Jon Kitna QB (retired)
Terrence Newman (cap casualty)
Marcus Spears DT (traded for 2013 draft pick)
Following players re-signed:
Mat McBriar P
Laurent Robinson WR
Tony Fiametta FB
Following players signed:
Calais Campbell DE Arizona Cardinals - Big money signing. Finally, a talented 3-4 DE. Campbell is big and athletic and will have a huge impact on the Front 7.
Ahmad Brooks OLB San Francisco 49ers – Attitude and depth. He will compete with Victor Butler for Spencer’s departed job. He plays with the kind of passion this defense lacks and can play all 4 LB spots.
Kirk Morrison ILB Buffalo Bills – More depth and insurance in case Bruce Carter isn’t ready to start.
Aaron Ross CB NY Giants – Hurts the Giants, helps us. Solid, not spectacular CB, with great speed.
Tom Zbikowski FS Baltimore Ravens – Adds more toughness and can also return kicks.
Chilo Rachal G San Francisco 49ers – In 2010 he rated as one of the top run-blocking guards. In 2011, he was in and out of the starting line-up. He went to a trainer and lost 30 lbs. during the lockout and my guess is he didn’t adjust to playing at a smaller weight. At 6-5, 305 lbs. and he will be only 26, I would take a chance on him. Won’t cost as much as Carl Nicks or Ben Grubbs.
This isn’t the Philadelphia Eagles all over again. Outside of Campbell, these are not big names. They are players that fit a role and fill holes in our line-up. We will lose 8 to 10 free agents, so signing 6 players to replace them is not unrealistic.
Draft:
1. Peter Konz C 6-5/315 Wisconsin– This is assuming the medical concerns are not an issue. Will solidify the center position for the next decade.
2. Jarvis Jones OLB 6-2/242 Georgia – Surprise pick here but will be the complimentary pass rusher we have been missing.
3. Brandon Boykin CB/KR 5-10/183 Georgia – Another bulldog. Helps CB depth and return game.
4. Ladarius Green TE 6-6/236 La.-Lafayette – will be what we hoped Bennett would be as a receiving TE. Has time to learn behind Witten and Phillips.
5. Ryan Broyles WR Oklahoma – We take our annual injury risk a little later this year. He would be a colossal steal in the 5th round.
6. Jeff Demps RB/KR 5-8/191 Florida – Runs a 4.26 40 time, Garrett will find a way to use him on offense. Another boost to the return game.
7. Case Keenum QB 6-1/210 Houston – Will compete for the 3rd QB job.
