Yeah, I'm making up things.

Saying the first pick must have a major role on the team the first year is not saying drafting for need.

You're a complete and total moron.

You have a quote to back you up there, buddy?

That's the new draft for need lingo.

BPA gets preached too much whenever GMs talk draft, so media and fans have adopted "instant impact" as their new draft rallying cry.

BTW, Eatman is a paid Jerry lap dog.

If he says the world is flat, Nick would have an article up within hours telling you to be careful where you step.

I would think that even the homers and Jerry Bashers would agree that as a team we have done a pretty crappy job evaluating offensive linemen. For those who want to say we hit on Doug Free, I'll remind you that we had him rated below James Marten who we took a whole round ahead of Free.

Who I'm kidding? The homers look at every good draft pick as evidence that Jerry is the bestest GM ever. Draft picks that don't pan out don't matter since the draft is such a "crapshoot." The Bashers will say that he got lucky with the good picks.

Yeah, except you don't provide any facts when you spew.

You're the epitome of a blind, crap flinging, monkey squirrel.

I'm using common sense.

You can't provide "impact" the "first year" unless the roster is in a shape that allows you to come into the league and immediately have significant playing time.

It's 2+2, melvin. You're drafting for need.

You're speaking in absolutes. Jerry's statement was ambiguous as all hell. So it's not common sense, it's just crap your flinging against the wall.

You aren't drafting for need. If we take a CB that can be a first year starter does it mean we need him? If we take an OL that won't start his first year does that mean we don't need him? Last year we took Dez and he made an instant impact yet we didn't need a WR. Instant impact is a measure of current talent versus talent gained, not a measure of picking a player to fill your weakest role.

I don't agree with what Eatman said everybody would agree with.

Saying a draft pick must be an instant impact is another way of saying drafting for need.

Not necessarily.

Dez Bryant is an impact player.

We've got the 9th pick overall and several obvious holes. Its not unrealistic for any organization in the salary cap era to think that their first pick (especially one this high) should not have some sort of immediate impact.

When teams talk about taking the best player available now, its the best player available in an area of need for most of the early picks. You think teams like the Colts or Patriots are picking a QB in the first round right now if a QB is the highest rated player on their draft board? Are the Vikings spending a top-10 pick on a RB this yr if that particular player is the "best player available"

Oregon LB Casey Matthews (6-0, 232) – He’d probably be an inside backer in a 3-4 scheme. And with Sean Lee taken in the second round last season, with both Brooking and Bradie James expected to return, it could be crowded here. But the fact his brother is playing so well in Green Bay and his football genes, Matthews figures to be a good player as well. He made a few instinctive plays in the national championship and has picked off a few passes in practice at the Senior Bowl. If he’s the best available on the board, he should be considered.

Basically that says that maybe he'll be good because his brother is a good player...........um ok. Draft him in the 2nd because of his name? Best available in round 2 not hardly. Most likely wouldn't know the guy existed if it wasn't for his last name. The last thing this team needs is an undersized Bobby Carpenter regardless of what round he is selected.

He impressed me during the NC game.

I wouldn't mind having another smart player at linebacker who has a passion for football.

I'd take Matthews in the second.

sbk might flip the f out, because that's two white LB's in the second round in two years.
