@rapsheet
With #Cowboys missing on QB Nick Foles, they're expected to turn their attention to a pursuit of #Browns QB Josh McCown as the next option

McCown might have been the preferred Garrett option anyway. "He knows the system" and at 49 years old, there is no threat to develop.

I thought I read McCown is under contract this yr and next yr, however its quite a bit of money and the Browns are not overly motivated to trade him, which means we'll probably have to overpay to get him.

If we trade Leary for a backup QB, that seems like a loss to me unless we get a late rd pick or something else in return. Leary is still young and has some upside.

CZ has a post saying that Leary+ a draft pick for McCown and former 1st rd pick Berkevious Mingo is being discussed.

Seems to small to be a fulltime DE to me and he's been a massive bust. Had 5 sacks as a rookie but his production has been almost nothing the past two seasons. 2 sacks in 2014 and 0 (none) last yr.

Courtesy of traitor Alexander at CZ. Have no idea why that guys posts there as much as he does and doesn't share these tidbits with us first. I see where his real loyalty resides.

Tony Grossi is on Sirius and is suggesting Austin Davis might be a "compromise" target as he is getting 4th string reps behind Griffin, McCown and Kessler.

Davis carved up the Cowboys' secondary a few years ago when he was with the Rams, not that that means much.

Fucking GM slow to act on Foles, so now we have to give up talent/picks to get a backup QB.

no shit. get an experienced QB for free, or try to acquire a similar QB for picks? we of course opt for the latter. and we still owe a 5th for Cassel next year. :facepalm

He probably didn't want to flood our servers with all the traffic this post would generate.

I say lets trade another 5th rounder for Cassel or fuck it just roll with Dak.

But whatever we do, don't let Garrett have any say in our b/u QB because if last year taught us anything it's the former career back up can't identify/coach a back up qb to save his life.

Barkevious Mingo Draft Profile – NFL.com

If you squint, Mingo and Randy Gregory are basically the same player. Mingo is the kettle and Gregory is the the pot. Seems like Mingo has more speed.
I highly doubt there is any such trade though.

I don't see how you'd trade for Mingo with the idea that he'd be anything more than a gamble on physical ability. He's proven to be a lousy player so far.

just roll with Dak.

I was actually considering that too. If Garrett wasn't so stuck that his system stays and the players change, Dak could work. Frankly, if the offense is going to run as much as it is, then I'm sure Dak can handle that part, but with a little more catering and customizing plays (like a Sparano would do) the passing game could be molded around Dak rather than Dak needing extra time at Kumon to get the gist of why the position of opposing safeties control the routes and plays.

Then are you done with Gregory as well?

I think he's probably made that decision for us.

That said, Mingo has 3 yrs of doing nothing basically and has gotten worse every yr in the league. At least Gregory did look good before he got hurt in his 1st game.

I think I'd have to agree with Laufenberg, there's basically zero % chance Prescott can play this year. The learning curve is too steep and honestly he hasn't shown any real ability (so far) to make NFL caliber intermediate to deep throws with any kind of consistency. If all he can do with any confidence is dump it off to the RB, throw a WR screen or an occasional 3 yr pass to Witten teams can easily game plan around that.
