The problem is with the people living in the slums and the solution has to come from other, more, people there. As long as the solution and blame is thought to be outside nothing will change.

1. Cops couldn't shoot an unarmed black teen if he was armed.
2. Unarmed black teen wouldn't try to grab the cop's gun if he had his own.
3. Protesters could fire back when being tear gassed by overzealous cops that outgun them.
4. Reporters in McDonald's wouldn't be unnecessarily arrested by overzealous cops that outgun them
5. Everyone would be on even footing and it wouldn't be obfuscated by race

Bc cops shouldn't kill citizens minding their own business ? We hold them to a very high standard. they go trough background checks and are supposed to have protocols and uphold the law and junk. And If they kill us without provocation they're supposed to go to jail. Not vacation. You can see how that would upset a black mother ? Not as upsetting as running out of newports and basketballs. This is only a story because of the color of the cop and the victim. If the victim had been white or the cop had been black, it'd be buried or ignored altogether. Yes, there are rotten cops who slip through the screening process and abuse their authority, which is why we have Internal Affairs departments and Citizen Review boards. If he's found guilty, then throw the book at him and let the civil suit commence. But excessive force is not the same thing as premeditated murder. Let's stop pretending that he clipped a kid who was licking an ice cream cone on a park bench for no good reason.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean with more people as the solution, but I agree that no slum should be allowed to burn with welfare and gov't services as the fuel. It's a huge problem with this country. Way more than a few isolated incidents of police dumbassery.
