Watching Julio Jones light up SF this afternoon reminded me of comments Jerry made after the season.

If you don’t do something, almost unconventional, then you really don’t break out of that cycle,” said Jones, who then highlighted the Herschel Walker trade of 1989. “But how do we somehow create us an opportunity to kind of break out of this cycle – drive across the water if you will? That’s the challenge that I have right now.”

I believe this was after the Redskins loss. He made some similar comments prior to the game.

“What I want from Jason is Jason to be Jason as a coach. He understands how it feels to win when you’re the Dallas Cowboys. It goes out the stratosphere when you win. He understands that we put a lot on the line and we shoot across the water – we drive across the water – we don’t lay up, and consequently we can look bad. But we’re trying to look very good.”
The trade up for Jones seems to be a win for Atlanta after it was widely panned. The Skins move up for Griffin paid immediate dividends for them.

Jerry has tried this approach before....Roy Williams and Galloway, for example.

However, he seems to be thinking this way again. My question: What would he do to try to "drive across water" this offseason?

I can't think of any wow type moves out there.

We don't have the cap to do anything extreme in free agency.

And I honestly can't think of any wow players in the draft worth reaching for.

Jerry will identify and draft a wow player.

Its so obvious what they have to do, makes it almost impossible this could happen.

That said, what would constitute a "wow" player? A bigtime pass rusher maybe? And if that counts, you really cant blame them for targeting one.

Cordarrelle Patterson is a wow athlete (without wow productivity). I could see Jerry biting if Patterson is there.

Or Lacy ... Jerry probably recognizes that the Cowboys need a better running game, so why not get a formidable physical back like Lacy? (Jerry knows that a fine back doesn't need much blocking ...).

I cant see us spending an early pick on a WR or a RB, and certainly wouldnt do it if they hold onto Austin

I don't get the Patterson love. Yeah, he's an electric athlete and dangerous with the ball in his hands. He's also a mental midget headcase with a tendency to showboat.

Now... Justin Hunter? Booyeah.

Sounds like a cross between Deion and Dez. Wow!

His productivity isn't where it should be. But, as you know, he's going to flash all kinds of talent at the combine. He is electric.

Now... Justin Hunter? Booyeah.

Jerry loves him some ACL tear, so there is hope.

Yeah, I was thinking about this last night and my thought is the only real wow move we could make at this point would be Jon Gruden.

The right thing to do is to patiently build the lines. However, you can't tell me Jerry doesn't think they are close.

What could he do.....that might be considered a gamble....that he might feels puts them over the top?

My guess would be move up for an offensive player but I don't see that in this draft

junk the only thing I can think is if he hops on the read option craze and gets a young guy. He waits out Tony's contract until after April, we have the new kid in camp, then we botch bringing the new kid into the starting lineup and return to 5-11 for three straight years.

There's noone to trade up for. Unless his different thing is actually building both lines (which would represent a huge departure from the norm - and may be in the cards after our move to a 4-3) then we're looking at QB.
