The 49ers saved $3.25 MIL when they cut him and also can get up to $2 MIL back if he signs with another team. Seems like a reasonable move for a guy who was going to be a backup to their 2015 first rounder, a guy who only played 16 preseason snaps due to injury, and one who disagreed with the head coach's in-house rules pertaining to social media.

And yeah Midtwat, I was hoping I didn't have to state the obvious, but yeah at 34 years old and coming off of an ACL injury that sidelined him in 2014, he isn't going to be the perennial pro bowler that he once was.

That's why I said in a limited role. For depth. For his vet experience.

But really, if you could find another vet after week 3 of the season that could be a better option than I'm all for it. Because after today, I'm surprised anyone who watched the game would disagree with adding a vet to this dline rotation.

We most likely could have this depth you speak of if the Helen Keller staff wasn't busy wasting early - middle round picks on the likes of Matt Johnson, Danny Coale, Escobar, Wilcox, B.W. Webb, Devin Street, Chaz Green to just name a few gems the last 2-3 years

Second round is usually a good place to find a safety that can play.

Too bad for us we'll be using that on another backup TE next year.

Why Escobar? The guy has performed with the limited opportunities. He definitely could have been a big help in this game, had the coaching utilized him.

Activate Cassel, send Moore back to the PS. Open the playbook for Weeden and let him do or die next week vs the saints. 2 TE set and send McMuffen to the PS with Moore and activate Michael. Put him in and see what he brings to the table. Weeden either opens it up and throws down field next game which should keep them from stacking the box and give them a healthy dose of Michael and Randall

Weeden needs to get the WR involved. We can't have Dunbar as our leading receiver if we expect to win

I'd give Cassel the remainder of the starts. You know what you're getting with Weeden and it's not gonna be enough. Cassel has a decent resume in the league.

Weeden has shown no past or current promise. The guy was an utter joke in Cleveland and he at least stayed consistent with that in Dallas.

That's been the whole problem with Pablo. They refuse to use him, for whatever reason. Was he just drafted as injury insurance for Witten?

You answered your own question. Only one football to go around and with Witten being the mainstay and BFF with Romo whoever is playing second fiddle is going to have limited opportunities. Not denouncing the player but this team has played this game before with the same coach speak and same results on three occasions.

We seem to have a hard on for Boise State players lately; maybe Darian Thompson is our guy?

Yep, come on down Glenn Gronkowski (who is much more Chris than he is Rob).

Weeden will start at least 3 more games, Dallas will be 2-4 before they make a switch.

No way they hurt Weeden's feelings.

Not say Cassell is any better, but I think he'd attempt a few passes over 10 yards.

McFadden would not qualify for the PS. He's played in more than 6 games of his career.

Good point, Then release him and make room for Michael. He serves no purpose that the other three backs can't provide

Weeden needs to be in for one more week before I feel safe to allow Cassel a little more time to get the offense down

I'm ok with giving him one last chance. He just needs to open up and let her rip. He's got the arm, he's got the accuracy, he just doesn't have the confidence or good decision making ability

But with how accurate he was in the first half he might do a good enough job to get us a win against a hobbled Saints team if the rest of the team can do their jobs well.

You really think they'd hurt his feelings? I mean, if that was our game-plan today and he was perfectly fine with it, than there are no feelings to hurt. The guy is what he is and he knows it. But he sure does throw a pretty ball and the dude is gifted beyond belief. Just ask our primary talent evaluator.

I think it was totally the game plan to run everyone off deep and then hit Dunbar and Witten underneath, just like worked so well in the first half. If you look at Cleveland, there are plenty of highlights out there of Weeden throwing bombs to Gordon, so it's not that he can't or won't go deep. Our coaches wanted him to be a good old fashioned Parcells bus driver and not lose it. Problem is they never adjusted when the Falcons started looking for the underneath stuff.

And the real problem was our defense putting someone named Davonta Freeman in Canton.

We have to get the win this week, so open up the playbook. Go all out with Weeden. He admitted yesterday that the game plan was to hit the underneath stuff. It's embarrassing that our game plan wasn't to work Williams deep... We had one WR who had a catch, Beasley. You're not going to beat an NFL team with offense like that.

If we can't beat the Saints, then we're staring at a 6 game losing streak. Might as well try Cassell at that point to see if he can pull out a win against the Giants or Eagles.

yeah, hard-pressed to call the Saints game a "must win" when we have a 2-1 record, but considering what's on the horizon, we need to squirrel away as many wins as possible. this is doable even if Brees plays, but only if they stop coddling the red headed menace.

But the problem with getting a win over the Saints --- and even without Brees, it will not be easy; that's just going to make them all the more reluctant to make a change. A Weeden-led team may beat a Brees-less Saints team, but going forward such will not be the Giants and/or the Eagles.

Yea if we lose the saints game we need to use that bye week getting Cassell on the same page with the starting O. Can't afford to keep going with Weeden at that point.
