Weeden and Cassel played well enough to win games. Our coach just coached risk averse football which led to losses.

Plus we didn't have the run game last year that we will this year.

Our coach (pains me to type that) was more that risk averse football. He just didnt know what to do with a game plan or scheme to adapt to the players he had. He's not a coach really. He can clap and slap butts, parrot some coach speak when all is going well and he looks ok. Its when anything that requires any coaching ability is required from him that the wheels fall off. He's just lost if he has to come up with anything on his own.

RG3 had success because no one could defend that read option.
For about one season. Then teams started teaching defending the option again - it'd been so long since anyone had ran it, people forgot why it can't work. And it doesn't, IF the DEs are taught properly.

I was pumping the breaks on Dak before last night. The kid really has something to him though. No way in hell would I have ever thought he'd be doing some of the things he's doing (even just in preseason). The OL has given him plenty of protection and that's allowed him to show that he's capable of going through all his reads. He's shown that he can move defenders with his eyes. He's not just locking on to one guy and staring the WR down like I expected him to do. He's been very accurate when throwing from the pocket (also never expected that). And even when he is forced out and is on the move he's looking downfield.

I'd say he gives the team as much chance to stay afloat as any has been/never was QB they could sign at this point. Obviously being a rookie teams would be able to confuse him to some extent but that's why you lean on a dominant run game. Because make no mistake, the run game will be the best in the NFL this year.

Cassel played well enough to win maybe one game. Weeden was blamed for everything from world hunger to creating the Zika virus.

Other coaches have won plenty with Cassell. Just because Garrett is a ****** who can't win without Romo-magic doesn't mean Cassel isn't the ideal #2.

Remind me when that was exactly.

Was Haley the coach in KC when Cassell was there?

yeah. The first yr they were 4-12 the next yr 10-6

I looked up his numbers. Cassell has had two seasons with a winning record. 2008 with New England and 2010 with KC. Those are also the only two yrs he's ever had decent numbers stats wise.

The rest of his career is garbage.

The Patriots have been rolling with Garappolo as Brady's backup since day one. Why can't Dallas do the same with Dak?

I don't think it's a coincidence that both of Cassell's good seasons came under "Parcells guys". He's the stereotypical bus driver type that they love. Brady being the exception of course.

And I dont think that its a coincidence that under Garrett Cassel was a complete failure. Nor weeden.

Prescott doesn't look like a failure though. Kitna didn't play like an utter flub when he was here in 2010.

Maybe Cassel just fucking sux man. All his seasons but two have been terrible.

Its such an odd situation to me, if he sucks this bad, its an indictment on them for bringing him here especially since they traded for him

After watching him and Weeden suck last year, I was lead to believe the staff couldn't coach them up and design a game plan to help them out yet all I hear this year is that the coaches have designed an offense to help Dak succeed and Dak is kicking ass.

So which is it? All of the above?

I'd rather try to catch lightening in a bottle with Prescott than to somehow rekindle/resuscitate the careers of guys like Cassel and Weeden.

Prescott has a better upside, so start here.
