More DeMarco Murray rushing numbers
October, 23, 2011
Oct 239:03PM CTEmailPrintCommentsBy Calvin WatkinsARLINGTON, Texas -- The big numbers for Cowboys rookie running back DeMarco Murray were the 253 rushing rushing yards which set a franchise record for a single game. He also scored on a 91 yard run, the second-longest in franchise history.

Murray was close to getting some more numbers.

His efforts marked the 10th best rushing day in league history. Minnesota's Adrian Peterson has the record at 296, set in 2007. it's the second most rushing yards for a rookie in league history and Murray became the first Cowboys rookie to get over 100 yards since Marion Barber earned 127 in 2005.

"It's unbelievable," Murray said of being in the record books. "It is just a humbling experience. I never thought in a million years that I would be here with the Dallas Cowboys, Emmitt Smith. It is a great day by the offensive line. It is a great team victory."

Murray's 91 yard score was probably one of the more explosive plays of the season.

Out of a three receiver set, Murray got a delayed handoff busted through the hole and strong safety Darian Stewart fell down as he tried to support the run. Murray changed direction in the secondary forcing free safety Quintin Mikell to lose him. With Dez Bryant as an escort, Murray scored with ease.

"It was wide open," Murray said. "A bus could have gone through there. The offensive line did a great job. [Tony] Romo did a great job of geting the safety out of there with a little patience. It was wide open."

Murray also set a franchise record by averaging 10.1 yards-per-carry with more than 20 carries in a game.

The previous record was held by Tony Dorsett, who averaged 8.9 yards per carry on Dec. 4, 1977 on 23 carries.

As soon as Choice raced for a 91 yard touchdown... I said to myself, "I bet this kid rushes for over 100 yards today."

That's right. I called that shit.

Helluva first career start. Breaks alltime Cowboy single game rushing record.

Pretty easy to see why the Cowboys warroom was doing backflips over this guy now. What a performance.

Alot of scouting gurus missed on this guy badly. I read stuff about one dimensional, upright, speed back with good hands. He's alot more than that.

It was one game.

Murray had 187 yards through three quarters, and the Cowboys were up 20-7. Because they wanted to run to protect the lead, it was clear that Murray would get a shot at Smith's club record of 237 yards set Oct. 31, 1993, at Philadelphia.

Murray followed with a 43-yard run that could've gone for a 73-yard touchdown had he not run out of gas along the way. He finished it 2 yards shy of Smith's mark.

"I just wanted to get down and protect the ball," he said.

I like this guy.. he could teach a thing or two to some of the vets on this team.

lol

Its true though, alot of people went ape shit over this pick.

I don't think anyone was hating on Murray as much as they just wanted us to address a dif position with the pick. I doubt there were many "Murray haters".

You need to go back to CZ and read some of thsoe draft day threads then, as well as some of the stuff in the days following. There were people who absolutely despised the pick and said Murray was a one dimensional made of glass player.

I wanted Best linemen available. But like usual I talk myself into the pick very quickly. I even managed to do it for the 2009 draft.

I hated the pick because, like username, I wanted the best lineman available - and there were some good ones available.

And even Cr122 commented that he liked Murray, but not with our third. So....
