No reason to wait, besides I'll be really busy tomorrow with work.

Hideous offensive effort for pretty much the 2nd straight week. For all of you who said the magic powder was Garrett not calling plays and Romo running the no huddle more- well hope you are happy. Callahan sux and Romo looks hopeless figuring out what defenses are doing.

I don't know why I bother to get excited every offseason. I guess I'm a sucker for this team no matter what. Oh well.

1) I think Garrett should immediately yank playcalling from Bill Callahan and take away a lot of this new freedom Romo has at the LOS. He stinks at reading defenses, its why he makes so many mistakes to begin with. It looks like a hodge podge, helter skelter set up almost every play. There's no rhyme or reason to what they are trying to do and most of the pass patterns are 5 yds or less from the LOS. Romo audibled into a ton of bad plays today, including one that easily cost us a TD when he locked onto that ridiculous behind the LOS pass to the rookie WR instead of looking at what KC had on Dez Bryant (single off coverage) which probably would have had a much better chance of scoring than that garbage Romo ran. Romo threw probably 2 or 3 good passes the entire second half.

2) Defense had a couple of bad drives, but a lot of good ones otherwise in spite of the offense sucking the big one. No turnovers forced though, and that's why we couldn't win and overcome shitty offensive effort.

3) Special teams seems to be getting better, and Dan Bailey is automatic from just about anywhere.

4) Dez Bryant was awesome except for one play, dropping probably the easiest catch he has had in the first two games. Willing to give him a pass, because he makes so many plays even when guys are draped all over him. He takes bad passes from Romo and routinely turns them into positive plays. Also thought the offensive PI call on him was a joke.

5) They might have to shut Claiborne down for a few weeks to let his shoulder heal more. He has no tackling ability right now with one arm and got trucked badly on one play. Still not sure that was PI on him on that 3rd down play at the end of the game, but they nailed Eric Berry with a hold that negated a terrible Romo pick that was pretty borderline too.

6) I guess one positive that's obvious after the first two games in nobody in the NFC East appears to be really good (or even "good") meaning 9-7 or 10-6 will likely be more than enough to win the division.

Hope it gets better. But after seeing two games of this garbage offense that's netted a total of 3 tds and 6 field goals, I'm reasonably sure we arnt going anywhere again this year. I just hope that shit for brains Jones has enough sense to do the right thing after this season if we do end 8-8 or whatever again.

Garrett's offense was modestly less shitty. Nobody called for a cluster fuck, 3 person play calling system. People were calling for a real OC who was actually given some autonomy to be an OC.

That would make sense, but it doesn't change the fact that MANY people who commented on this all thought the offense would be awesome with Romo taking control most of the time and Garrett not calling plays at all.

The only difference I can tell so far is more emphasis on dink and dunk balls and total disorganization on the majority of plays rather than just a few now.

Don't really have any post game thoughts, except the following:

1. Did we run the pistol formation at all?

2. Yay Ware with 2 sacks. Boom.

3. Why is it Dez has 9 catches in the 1st quarter or whatever, but we can't get him the ball the rest of the game? And no one else on offense can do anything? I mean, if the defense takes something away, how can that not open up all our other supposed weapons????

God our offensive coaching staff is horrible.

This is a point of major emphasis at CZ. For whatever reason, just making the playoffs because you were the least shitty team in your division is "good news". People actually have so much confidence in the ability for other teams to magically flip some switch that they really think Dallas can do it once they just get to the playoffs.

What the fuck ever. If winning the shit sandwich NFCE title meant anything at all, I'd be pretty stoked about a horrible division. Because this team hasn't shown the ability to actually compete on a consistent basis, I know that getting to the playoffs under such circumstances would just do nothing but give Jerry something to point to as his team gets their ass flipped from contention in the first round.

Yeah. Although the commentator called it "shotgun".

I didn't point it out like it would be some achievement to hang one's hat on. But for some it might be the only reason to pay attention the rest of the year.

I don't have any delusions about this season any longer. I just know there's too many good players on the team to look this mediocre week after week after week for basically every season in the past 5 now.

Ware had a good game. So did Selvie and Hatcher. Spencer looked rusty but saw a few plays with some of the explosion off the ball.

Maybe because the guy throwing the ball had his dickhead hat on most of the 2nd half.

God our offensive coaching staff is horrible.

Pretty much sums it up.

Good summary, dbair.

I'm wracking my brain trying to think of how the Cowboys offense might turn it around to have a decent season.

The best I can muster -- The interior OL should improve as the season goes on. This could translate into a more effective running game. If opposing defenses had to worry about the running game, it could only help Romo, Dez, etc.

That's all I've got.

Terry Bradshaw, the man who cant spell CAT when spotted the "C" and "T" totally nailing it two weeks in:

“I’m extremely disappointed in what I saw in Dallas,” he said after the Cowboys dropped a 17-16 decision to the Chiefs. “I have a feeling we are going to see the up and down of the Cowboys. That’s just the way it’s going to be.”

Earlier Bradshaw unloaded on Cowboys offensive coordinator Bill Callahan, who has assumed play-calling responsibility from Jason Garrett. Keep in mind you rarely hear NFL TV voices slice and dice head coaches let alone question coordinators.

Same old weak junk we saw in Oakland,” Bradshaw said, referring to Callahan’s days with the Raiders. “It drives me up a wall, five-yard out routes, five-yard drag routes. You have to take chances. You can’t keep running this short dinky offense.”

The Pot Pourri approach to building a team. Hire an unproven coach. Hire his staff. Nip and tuck along the way until it's obvious you'd made an error in hiring him in the first place, but stick it out and hope it works despite a clear lack of direction. Yeah, I guess the oil business really does rely on a good amount of luck, so I see can why the idea that it's a universal formula proving that 17 years of failure is really just a long streak of bad luck.
