I kind of like our new hardline free agent approach. If only the GM would die and the coach would get replaced I could get back on board with this organization.

Robinson officially a Colt, looks like they did hand him the starter job. Probably with starter money too.

The Colts have found their second cornerback to go with Vontae Davis. They've agreed to terms Patrick Robinson.

Better them than the Cowboys. No sense in getting into a bidding war for a CB that is really no better than Carr or Claiborne were over the last few years.

Meh. Not really sad over this.

Not upset either. A little embarassing though. They usually got anyone that visited. Now we are throwing up our skirts and even average players are passing it up.

Robinson made a lot of positive comments on how much he loved what Colts HC Pagano had to say during a lunch meeting.

I'll find the article I was reading, but it sort of looked like he was more convinced that Pagano was "real" and our guy wasn't.

Here's the article I was looking at. Some of it I might have to take with a grain of salt considering I also read he got nearly 5 million a yr to go there. After being as frugal as we were (ie, cheap) with the cap this offseason, I have a really hard time believing we were offering close to this. Still, some of the comments are interesting.

Cornerback Patrick Robinson goes with Colts over Cowboys

INDIANAPOLIS -- It took cornerback Patrick Robinson only half of lunch to realize why so many of Indianapolis Colts coach Chuck Pagano's players enjoy playing for him.

Pagano, as he has done so many times with his players, used his charm over lunch during the NFL owners meetings in Florida on Tuesday to convince Robinson to sign what the NFL Network reported is a three-year deal with the Colts.

"We had a great conversation, and to be honest, I was sold halfway through the conversation," Robinson said. "I already knew that I wanted to be a Colt."

Patrick Robinson was the only defensive back to play in all 16 games for the Chargers last season.

Robinson flew to Indianapolis on Tuesday evening and spent most of Wednesday finalizing his deal with the team.

It looked like the Colts weren't going to have a shot at signing Robinson earlier in the week. The Dallas Cowboys had agreed in principle with Robinson last week, a source told ESPN Cowboys reporter Todd Archer, but things changed once Robinson switched agents.

"It was just another visit, and I don't want to get too far into details about that situation," Robinson said. "That's the past, and I'm a Colt right now. That's all that matters right now."

Dallas' loss is Indianapolis' gain.

"Sometimes you get that feeling that the guy that you're talking to, he's telling the truth," Robinson said. "Sometimes you get the feeling, and I got that feeling [with Pagano]."

The Colts have been in need of a starting cornerback to play opposite of Pro Bowler Vontae Davis since it became evident that they weren't going to re-sign Greg Toler, who dealt with injuries during his three seasons with the team.

"We've been interested in Patrick since early in free agency, and we're glad it finally came together," Colts general manager Ryan Grigson said in a statement released by the team. "He is a versatile, experienced and steady corner that gives us immediate help opposite Vontae. He was a fit on a number of levels in regards to overall skill but also adds some strong intangibles."

Robinson, who can play in the slot or on the outside, was selected in the first round of the 2010 draft by the New Orleans Saints. He played there five seasons before spending last season with the San Diego Chargers.

Robinson started every game last season and finished with 49 tackles and an interception. He has 10 interceptions in 74 career games.

Hey Randy Gregory thinks Garrett is real. So there is that

I honestly think our half assed approach turned him off. No head coach, no GM, no fake GM, nor fake GM kid met with him face to face. Just our special teams coach. These players sometimes want their asses kissed and we didn't pucker up.

Also, Indy hired the secondary coach from SD, so that I am sure mattered.

This guy really did the Cowboys a favor. They just gave this guy $14 mil to spare it up for 3 years in Indy.

With Goal To Compete For Super Bowl, Youthful Advice Led Thornton To Dallas
Thursday, March 24, 2016 5:51 PM CDT

By Nick Eatman
DallasCowboys.com Staff Writer

IRVING, Texas – When it became time for Cedric Thornton to seriously entertain offers from other teams, the free agent turned to one of the few people he trusts to make the right decision.

His eight-year old son, of course.

Cedric Jr. didn’t hesitate, immediately telling his father:

“Dallas. We’re going to Dallas.”

The elder Thornton was fine with that, knowing there was mutual interest between the two sides.

The next time his phone rang, about 30 minutes after his son’s prediction, Thornton answered, only to have head coach Jason Garrett on the other line.

“I knew then I was destined to be here,” Thornton said. “My son is running up and down the stairs saying,” I told you so. I told you it was Dallas.’ So after that, I decided I wasn’t going to do other visits. And the rest is history.”

Thornton arrived at Valley Ranch for a visit and even told the Cowboys he wasn’t leaving the building without a deal. The Cowboys signed him to a four-year, $17 million deal that includes $6 million guaranteed.

“I just knew I was supposed to be here. It felt right,” he said. “I had some other offers from Seattle and Kansas City. But I know this team. I’ve played against these guys. I think we have a chance to win a championship here. This isn’t a 4-12 team. We’re going to be back and I just wanted to be a part of it.”

Thornton knows it has been over 20 years since the Cowboys last won a Super Bowl, but his reasoning is simple:

“Why not now?” he said. “You can tell they have a special thing going on. I’ve played against Zack Martin, Frederick, Collins, Doug Free. It’s always a tough battle when we face those guys. And now I get to face them in practice every day. I feel like they’re going to make me a better player and maybe I can do the same to them.”

Thornton played defensive end with the Eagles’ 3-4 scheme, but will slide inside to the tackle spot in the 4-3 system. But Garrett said he sees versatility in Thornton that could land him in different spots on the line.

“We’ve been going against Cedric and that defensive line in Philadelphia for a few years now and he’s just a good football player,” Garrett said. “He’s versatile. You see him align in different spots on their defensive line. They’ve always challenged you a number of different ways. They’ve got a lot of different guys that are good run defenders. He plays the right way, he’s productive, he’s active, he’s physical and again we’ve had a chance to go against him a couple times a year so we know him well and we’re lucky to have him on our side.”

For Thornton, he sees this scheme as a much better fit, which correlates with his aggressive personality as well.

“I feel like this scheme is definitely for a football player and a guy who wants to attack all the time,” he said. “My mentality isn’t to catch blocks and get rid of them. My mentality is to attack, penetrate and be disruptive. That’s what I want to do and that’s what I’m going to do.”

Team Stream is saying that Jason is defending Brandon Carr amid rumors of cuts etc.

Just like the offense: don't change a thing and somehow things will get better.

Makes sense. Carr is a veteran who doesn't get in trouble, doesn't make waves.

The fact that he's not a good player is of little concern.
