Only a nitwit would believe that he would be offered anything less than 3 years.
Brace yourself: rumor is the Cowboys are working on a 5 year deal with Garrett.
Let's be honest, this was going to happen even with a 9-7, no playoff season. Jerry schemed for years to have a coach he'd be totally comfortable with, and he wasn't going to get rid of him for anything short of an absolute disaster.
I am fine with a Garrett extension. Try to keep the current coaching staff. I think the formula works.
I'll wait on Linehan's situation to comment.
What formula? The more that the coach's role is reduced, the better the team does? That would have been fine except for the entire end to every critical game in Jason's tenure where the head coach was supposed to come up with some solution, some design, some leadership, something, anything...except what had not been working for or against his own team. And yet his design is to do nothing except the same plays over and over, expecting different results. That game was a regression to 2012 or last year or the year that Wade was fired. They forgot about basic first downs like they had done all year and regressed into Jason's stupidity.
Again, Dallas had a much better chance of winning that game if Jason left the game at halftime with a stomach virus from too much cheese. Any other coach in the staff would have called the obviously successful plays and stopped the ones that were killing drives and Romo, not in that order.
Steve Young said it best. Why was Dallas not running the ball or getting the first down when the goal was to keep Aaron Rodgers off the field? He asked why they were in such a desperate situation where the game was on the line with only a few yard for a first down and they decided to throw what he called a "lollipop50/50 throw to Dez". He said if they were so sure Dez could climb the back of the CB to make that kind of play the. Why was that only his second catch of the game? He could have been doing that all game?
Head coaches correct fumbling players (Tiki Barber). Head coaches prepare their team for desperate and end game situations. Head coaches ensure their players don't get sloppy and stop blocking for field goals or have punts blocked. Head coaches try to protect their players and outsmart the other teams by using play action and the obvious strengths of their players. Head coaches draft fast players when the scheme calls for fast players. Head coaches recognize when a player can only bodycatch and is scared to physically contest a pass to him against a CB when it could be a TD (Williams. 4 times this year). Head coaches And head coaches should be enraged that the same play (5 wide) is the only thing that the pass coordinator can call over and over while the QB gets sacked the WRs are covered and nothing is happening...unless the head coach has ordained that the game plan calls for such things.
