I know you know that as long as JJ is running the show we diehard fans are screwed. Every single decision he makes is always behind and reactive. He does nothing to get out front regarding football operations. Great foresight in buying the team but he is absolutely horrible on the football side and as an owner. He really does not know what he is doing . You can pick anyone of the prospects coaches and not one of them will stand any chance of success as long as JJ is GM. It just ain’t gonna happen. We just have to pray that when SJ takes the reins that he hires a real GM and gets out of the way. Anybody think a Troy Aikman like GM with free rein and total control could turn this ship around? I personally think it would work. I know it’s wishful thinking but so is thinking the Cowboys will go to the Super Bowl or at least get to an NFC Championship game..

This is a blurb from a story I was reading about how many are wrong to assume Witten is similar (or would be) like a Dan Campbell (which I agree with, there's no evidence of this whatsoever).

This is a little interesting to me, because I had assumed Witten was coaching in HS because he didn't have any opps in the NFL, or even college. It doesn't change my mind about wanting him as HC here (which probably won't happen, but it's Jones so you never know) but does show that apparently there WAS interest in him.

Dooms and Yim, how much have you followed or heard about what Witten has done there at this HS? I know he won back to back titles, but give us more background. Is it because they are uber talented and win all the time? Were they a relevant team locally? How much impact did Witten have?

They’ve also had very different paths so far as coaches. Witten turned down NFL and college coaching opportunities in 2021 to lead a private high school’s football program in Texas.

He brought his team into Kimbrough Memorial Stadium and put a solid dominating ass whipping on one of our better teams up here who wound up in the state semifinal game for class 5A.

The first confirmed interview.

Would love it if he somehow ended up as DC, HC not so sure but he is not worse than some of the other "names" we have seen discussed.

I think you could so some dot connecting here. Jane Slater name dropped someone a few hours after the McCarthy news broke.

Saleh (2011-2013), Brian Schottenheimer (2018-2020) Mike Solari (2018-2021) all worked for Pete Caroll.

Carroll was mentioned by Slater as a potential candidate. He wanted the Chicago job but doesn't look like he is going to get it, he also interviewed for the Raiders HC job. Jones could probably convince Carroll to have Jason Witten on his staff in some capacity too, and prep him for taking over a bigger role (if not HC) when Carroll was done, which couldnt be more than a couple seasons or so.

I'm wondering if Deion is driving choices of Jerry's interview candidates now. Salah not only is a great DC, he can give Deion HC pointers showing him where the traps pits and landmines are.
Could be, although Deion and Zimmer are super tight and Zimmer was actually working for Deion at Colorado as a defensive consultant or something.

I do agree with you tha Saleh at DC is more of what this could be about though. If Jones hired a college coach (you mentioned Deion, but it could be Lincoln Riley or Lane Kiffin too) any of those guys you'd want to do what you've laid out. Get them a strong DC who has also been a HC.

I'm looking forward to the two third rounders we'll get when he moves on.
We've got a long way to go before we can match the Whiners 30 draft picks for DEI hires around the league.

AKA as "Goodell-Niner rebuilding plan initiative"

You can't hate this fucking owner enough.

I've come pretty close but now the hate has just transitioned to apathy, I love it when they lose big just to see him squirm, the problem is parity keeps bailing his ass out to give the illusion of some level of competence. Nothing would make me happier than abject failure for a 2-5 year run and an almost empty stadium with no one wanting to interview him because he's finally beaten the care out of everyone, media included

Not much, all I've heard is its a small private school. IIUC, he's not competing with the big boys of Texas High school football.

It's Liberty Christian in Argyle and it's a TAPPS school not UIL but TAPPS has some powerhouse teams in it. Witten just won his second straight state championship. Whipped the collective asses of our class 5A state semifinalist.

That's reasonable.
