Cowherd: "We are watching the fall of a great American Sports brand."
I have to be honest, if they hire Schottenheimer it really doesn't change anything about what I expect from them in 2025 or 2026 (if he were still coach then). I certainly don't think he's a strong candidate and probably not even a decent one, but McCarthy proved he really wasn't any good either. He had 5 yrs to get the team past the divisional round and couldn't do it. I really don't think anything will change. We were 7-10 this yr, we'll probably be 6-11 or 7-10 next yr if they stay healthy. We know they almost assuredly won't do anything in free agency (as usual) so there's no reason to expect a better record.
His dad never won the Super Bowl (or got to one) but he won a lot of regular season games and playoff games. His teams were fundamentally sound and typically ran the ball well and played good defense. If 'lil Schotty sticks to that formula and tries to deemphasize the mediocre QB, maybe they have an average to above average season.

“It is almost like football is an afterthought. ... Jerry and Stephen are all about the money and monetizing every aspect of the Cowboys. That gets frustrating. That gets distracting to get your job done."
This is insightful and thoughtful. And if true do we apologize?Might be why they are spending so much "time" with Schottenheimer, perhaps speaking jointly with him and Pete Carroll.
Schottenheimer was Carroll's OC for 3 yrs in Seattle and if the plan is to have a bridge HC to Jason Witten, this makes much more sense than people like Kellen Moore or even Schottenheimer.

Supposedly the people above him (Carroll) forced him to move on. I don't recall if he was actually "fired" with time left on his contract or if they just decided to move on from him after his contract expired.Um, didn't Pete fire Schottenheimer years ago?
