Just ONE DAY before piloting the Blackhawk that collided mid-air with a passenger jet over DC, transgender military pilot Joe Ellis appeared on the Michael Smerconish podcast. In the interview, Ellis expressed anger over Trump’s ban on trans service members, calling it a direct threat to a career in the military.

I don't know if these reports that the pilot was trans are accurate or not, but it is very suspicious that they have not yet released the names of the pilot. The longer they take to release the name, the bigger the scandal if it is in fact this trans person.

I have read opinions of dozens of pilots and other experienced aviation personnel and from what I am reading, they seem to agree that intentionally crashing into a moving jets at speed is very very difficult. I am not sure what the speed of the jet was at the time of the crash but even at 200mph I imagine it would be an extremely difficult task. Imagine hitting a 200 mph fast ball while running from the dugout to home plate. The timing would have to be almost impossibly precise.

The only thing that concerns me is whether or not any government agency can be honest and objective about what happened and why.

From what I have seen so far, It does not appear that the airliner was at fault. They were where they were supposed to be. I don't understand why ATC did not instruct the helicopter to either climb above the jet or drop below the jets altitude. From what I heard they instructed the helicopter to fly behind the jet. Seems to me, changing altitude would have been a wiser course. But I am not expert.

I don't understand why both aircraft were flying at the same altitude to begin with.

The New York Times is reporting that the helicopter may have been flying outside of its approved flight path and higher than it should have been.
