Franchise tag sounds like a good idea. Buy one more year to see if Spencer can take that next step. Good teams are made up of a lot of solid players. Not all of them can be super stars like Ware. 15 QB pressures is pretty good. Cowboys are probably paying him peanuts this year too.

Also, the Thanksgiving game is a huge advantage for the Cowboys. It’s not some dreamed up media story. It is a fact. Cowboys are fortunate.

I agree.

Tell that to the Lions. What's their record on Turkey Day?

Isn't the franchise tag for DEs (which Spencer would be listed as) 10.5 mil for one season? Yeah, no.

Quick google search showed 33-36-2 (.464 winning percentage) on Thanksgiving. Team History 496-593-32 (.459 winning percentage)

.005 advantage, see told you, lol

*edit, took out the thanksgiving record from the history, came out to (.440 winning percentage on non-thanksgiving days) .019 advantage.

Im pretty sure Spencer would be listed as the position he plays in.. why would he be listed as a DE when he's an OLB?

It's always been my understanding that 3-4 OLBs are listed as DEs in the franchise tag system. Since their primary job is to rush the passer like a 4-3 DE.

Hmm.. you could very well be right, that just seems messed up. You then bump the guy up 1.5 million or so in salary by listing him at a position he doesn't technically play. I mean, he goes back into coverage alot more than any DE ever would.

Yeah that sounds like a bullshit rule. I bet Goddell thought of it.

I tried looking it up, and it looks like he would get the LB franchise tag. Still, it's in the area of 9-10 mil for one year. Way too much to pay just to, "see if he has it".

He's played what, 4 years now? He doesn't have it. There's no way we need to pay him that much money.

Might be an upgrade in talent deprived Cleveland, but I dont see him starting for either San Diego or Miami as you mention. Both those teams have capable pairs of OLB's

Its not that I think "nobody" will want him, but I do think "nobody" is going to sign him to a big time contract. His production on the field clearly doesnt warrant it, and he has far too many games where you almost cant even tell he played, let alone made any difference in.

The only reason you can't tell if he played is because either you have an agenda or you have no clue.

Koi Misi for Miami and Larry English for SD have 3 sacks between them how do you consider that capable?

You don't think KC or Buffalo would not pay good money to upgrade there OLB position with him?

Just this past game he made a big TFL on the last drive yet you say he he did nothing which shows how biased you are.

Just the fact that you think he is only worth the vet minimum shows how clueless you are being.

Honestly, I agree with Middy. Through the franchise on him, see what one more year does for him. If no dice, let him walk afterwards. Or, maybe some team will go after him and we can get draft picks.

We'll see how clueless I look after the season.

He might get something a little more than the vet minimum, but the thought of using the franchise tag and the kind of cap charge that would go with that for a player like Spencer is absolutely laughable.

Spencer will get quite a bit more than the vet minimum. Just because the market dictates that a capable starting player sees at least 2-3 mil a year. Unless it's a one-year deal.

I will make sure to bookmark this post because you will look very clueless.

To tell the truth we don't have to wait until the offseason because you think 1 sack Koa Misi is a better LB that Spencer.

I didnt say he was better, I havent watched enough of him there to know. I know they liked him alot though when they drafted, and they havent had him that long. Seems they'd want to give him every chance before giving up on him for a veteran free agent.
