They need to fix a whole list of problems and the name of a football team needs to be near the very bottom of the list.

But of course it isn't...

It's like someone on the Titanic saying they're offended about the color of the deck chairs.

Go plug the fucking hole and don't worry about it.

your argument is that they don't get to care about the Redskins name because there are bigger problems facing the native americans.

That's idiotic. I already explained why. There are much bigger problems out there than pet adoption but that doesn't stop them from making me cry with the Sarah McLachlan commercial when I'm up at 2 am drunk and masturbating to cable tv. You don't get to be the arbiter of what people are allowed to care about or spend funds on.

I'm talking about issues that are correlated. Pet adoption and war and cancer have nothing to do with one another.

Or better yet someone saying they're championing the cause of curing cancer and spending millions on flu shots.

Either way, everyone is looking at these people like a turd in the punch bowl except for liberals.

The people campaigning about this aren't looking anywhere but their bank accounts and political status and that's the problem. The name is damn offensive first of all and outside of that I don't think going back to the original franchise name and giving the unis a bit of a makeover is a bad thing but the people yelling the loudest about it are doing it to satisfy their own agenda and not because they care about an injustice being done to anyone.

Walt Disney would find the Cleveland Indians logo over the top but nobody is airing a commercial about that.

Coming from people who want their tax free casinos and government assistance so they can live in dumps, it just doesn't hold much weight.

Start cleaning up your communities instead of paying for air time during the NBA finals about the name of an NFL team.

Almost* everyone sees right through it.

And I'm done with this.

What is the original name? I don't even know.

But you are completely correct... When this is done the PC crowd will just move on to something else. Is it okay to be the Chiefs? I don't know anymore, but I'm guessing not.

Let me get this straight... 1) You think the name is offensive. 2) You think it should be changed. 3) You disagree with Native Americans spending any money trying to get that message out there because some of them live in poverty. What am I missing?

If you think the name is offensive, and agree it should be changed, then do you expect some mythical perfect race of people to advocate for the name to be changed. Wouldn't it make more sense and be more effective by those actually personally affected by the name to lobby for its change?

Can white people not support reforms to military health (VA) benefits because there are illiterate people in backwoods areas of the south? Can NBA players not comment on Donald Sterling because there is a problem with black children being raised without fathers?
Like was said earlier... you don't get to decide what issues are tackled first and by whom. Often times the issues that should be the easiest to solve (like this one) are dealt with first, because they are not as complicated.

BTW, if Jon is solidly on your side, that's a good sign that you might wanna rethink things.

I think it's a good way to piggieback their "plight" on an issue that has really blown up, the media and Congress are making a big fuss, might as well put our "cause/plight/race" in the forefront while it lasts and see what we can get.
The ad is all about how tough they have it, take away the helmet at the end and people would not be talking about it today.
Good sound strategy, I say.

They spent all that money on a commercial to change the name of a football team while they live in poverty.

Where are their priorities exactly?

What a fucking joke...

Pretty much exactly what I was thinking.

Boston Braves, I believe.

Oh yeah, that does sound right. That would be a great nickname.

I live close enough to Oklahoma that one of my TV stations is up there, and recently I saw a story on this. Many small towns around there have heavy Native American populations and several of their high school mascots are Redskins. None of the towns' NA inhabitants that they interviewed thought there was anything wrong with it. But I mean, what do they know.

TE, there is an Indian reservation behind my house. I dare you to say the name Redskin there. I'll pay for your flight even.
