The people campaigning about this aren't looking anywhere but their bank accounts and political status and that's the problem. The name is damn offensive first of all and outside of that I don't think going back to the original franchise name and giving the unis a bit of a makeover is a bad thing but the people yelling the loudest about it are doing it to satisfy their own agenda and not because they care about an injustice being done to anyone.
Walt Disney would find the Cleveland Indians logo over the top but nobody is airing a commercial about that.
Let me get this straight... 1) You think the name is offensive. 2) You think it should be changed. 3) You disagree with Native Americans spending any money trying to get that message out there because some of them live in poverty. What am I missing?
If you think the name is offensive, and agree it should be changed, then do you expect some mythical perfect race of people to advocate for the name to be changed. Wouldn't it make more sense and be more effective by those actually personally affected by the name to lobby for its change?
Can white people not support reforms to military health (VA) benefits because there are illiterate people in backwoods areas of the south? Can NBA players not comment on Donald Sterling because there is a problem with black children being raised without fathers?
Like was said earlier... you don't get to decide what issues are tackled first and by whom. Often times the issues that should be the easiest to solve (like this one) are dealt with first, because they are not as complicated.
BTW, if Jon is solidly on your side, that's a good sign that you might wanna rethink things.
