I don't see the first pick that will have an impact this season. Very low impact draft IMO.

So you think Mackenzy Bernadeau and Zach Martin are the same type of player on the field?

You honestly believe that these guys we picked arnt better than the street free agents we signed on Wednesday of game week and suited up on game day that same week?

You are putting words in my mouth. Bernadeau needed up upgrading. It will take Martin a while to get used to his new position before there will be a big improvement. The rest of the picks needs more developing than Martin and they are not going to impact the season. Bank on it.

While I don't have unrealistic expectations of those late rd guys, I do like the fact they were all productive players from big schools. I'm sure there will be some transition growing pains, but these guys are more talented than the scrubs we kept signing and trotting out there last yr.

Martin is gonna be really good.

Martin was not one of the top three tackles and he is not a top guard. I think he will be solid, but solid may be his ceiling. I wasn't big on him before the draft for those reasons. Well, that and his physical short-comings.

I think he is going to be solid, but he is far from being a Larry Allen type of lineman. One thing I question is that scouting reports are saying that he is maxed out physically. The one player that he had problems with at the Senior Bowl was Hageman. As a guard, he will face many players that are stronger than Hageman. I think drafting Fred last year will have a bigger impact unless Martin can move to right tackle. I am curious how he will do with the shortest arms of any tackle in the league and not much room to add some weight which would help on the right side.!i see some unanswered questions that could keep him from being as good as fans are thinking right now. There is nothing wrong with solid though. I wish one of the other tackles would have dropped or I wouldn't have minded one of the true guards be taken later on. The draft didn't work out that way, and Martin was the safe pick. If Parnell could beat Free out for the RT position, I think Martin's best fit in the pros will be at left guard. I will admit that I do like the bigger, powerful type of lineman more than the smaller ones. That is just personal preference and I know there are some good smaller linemen.

Mayock and Kirwin both said he had an awesome week at the Senior Bowl, and they only saw one play where someone beat him (it was Donald according to them). Neither mentioned any struggles with Hageman.

LOL

Again, pretty much with jnday on Martin. He's never played guard before and we're sure he's going to be a great player there at 307? Not that that's impossible by any means, but I wonder how he's going to do against the biggest and strongest DTs.

It happened. You can take my word for it. Power is not one of his strengths. The one play you are talking about was against Donald and it was the first play in the drill. Martin played him to a stalemate afterwards. I missed addressing a point you made in a previous post. I do like the fact that most of the guys drafted came from large schools. I am sick of Jerry trying to outsmart everybody with these small school projects.

Somebody help me out, because I would have sworn I heard one or the other of the talking heads say Martin had played at all 5 spots on the line.
Or did I misunderstand and they merely said he was capable of that?

He's going to kick ass and take names, TE.
You're not guessing, are you?

Pretty sure he said on The Fan after the draft that he'd never played guard. I think he worked there a little bit at the Senior Bowl.

They think it's *possible* he could play any of the 5 spots.

I think it is something made up by the homer crowd to make them feel good about the draft pick. They are under the impression that Martin is better than Larry Allen.

Mayock, Kirwin and some others said they think he could play all 5 OL positions at an extremely high level.

I doubt we ever see anyone as good as Allen again.
