Martin and Lawrence start.

Hitchens is a special teamer who may get some play at WLB as a rotation player.

Devin Street is a backup but a good value pick in the 5th.

And no DT at all in this draft yet, so apparently we are set with McClain and Kearse playing the 1-tech position.

That is two starters and two backups, with the OLB potentially being a bust based on draft grades. That is what 8-8 teams do every year.

Your Dallas Cowboys!

Not sure why anyone expects different each year. Same recipe. Same ingredients. Same cooks.

Garrett being fired will be my Super Bowl victory.

Think the thread title is lame. This isn't a mediocre draft.

3 of the 4 picks have been really good. One was awful.

75% for this team is good compared to most years.

The Lawrence pick is sullied by how much we gave up to get him. Good player though. We basically didn't have a 3rd or 4th round pick this year.

How about this percentage.

40% good picks, 40% aborted picks, and 20% decent value backup pick

The missing third and stupid 4th are the 40%, in case you were wondering.

That's a more accurate assessment, given the picks this team was granted in this draft.

The missing 3rd allowed us to get the guy we needed in round two. It wasn't wasted.

The 4th rd pick, now that was a waste.

We could have had the same player in the first, plus two more (possibly 3) starters.

MEDIOCRE

By the way, Todd Archer reporting that the Cowboys had Lawrence as one of only 20 players with a first round grade. So if they took him at 16, it would not have been a reach.

I really think you are undervaluing what a 3rd round pick is in this draft. It's a defensive starter. We needed 2 to 3 of them out of this draft. We failed.

We needed a top end pass rusher dude, they got the guy rated as the 3rd best pass rusher on their chart.

Besides as I mentioned in the other thread, after seeing us throw away another 4th on a middling player like that LB we picked, people like you cant be selling me (or really anyone) on the virtues of "staying put". We simply don't make smart picks often enough when we do.

You think so after seeing who we picked in the 4th?

Shit, knowing Jerry we might have picked the LB in the 3rd instead of the 4th. We'd have probably just wasted the pick anyway.

Especially on a team with the worst defense in football last year

Your argument shows EXACTLY why the Cowboys are mediocre. They suck at draft so much that we can count on them to only find two quality players in a draft.

Thanks for making my point for me. LOL

I don't think I've been saying anything to the contrary. There's a reason they are where they are most years.

That said, my argument is people like our 4th rd pick are proof of why sitting still and not being aggressive and getting "the guy" is bad for this team.

So, the way to fix this is to change the draft philosophy by finding value at every pick like the winning teams do.

That isn't going to happen while the Jerruh is large and in charge here.

And he's tried it a couple times (throwing quantity out there instead of quality) and in those years the draft results have generally been even worse. 2009 comes to mind.

That year he admitted in the press conference to intentionally drafting backups and special teamers because they liked their talent level.

So we agree on the fact they suck at drafting and talent evaluation, at least.

This can change but Jerry has to allow football people to make the decisions.

I think we know that isn't going to happen.

And whoever made the call on that 4th rd pick, if he's now a major contributor to the "process" then nothings really changed. (McClay)

This is because they have too many cooks in the kitchen. McClay could be Nostradamus and it wouldn't matter.

I never understood the homer philosophy that we would have just blown the pick anyway.

So you're admitting we suck as a Front Office? Because if I said that, you'd lose your mind.

I don't necessarily mean this for dbair, even though he just used it. It's meant for the Zoners and Owners.
