This episode was on again tonight, and I watched it again, closely.
What struck me this time was in all the highlights shown, nobody ever had to stop or slow down for one of Roger's deep passes. With exception of course, being the "hail mary" to Pearson. Now, I am sure it happened other times but I definitely do remember it was the rare exception rather than the rule. Same was true but only to a slightly lesser degree, with Danny White.
Troy Aikman was this way too - there was a time in Dallas and in the NFL in general when, if your prime wideout had a step on the defender, that defender wasn't going to be any factor in the play at all because the ball is delivered to the receiver, in stride not just a little short so he has to slow down or even stop.
What happened to that artistry? That craftsmanship?
