Only one more NFL Job remaining, the Saints. McCarthy may or may not still be a candidate there. Several coaches were announced as getting 2nd interviews but McCarthy was not "officially" named as one of those. His name was mentioned again yesterday however, almost in passing as "potentially still being in play"

Jerry is a notorious tightwad, so I'd be shocked if he paid a first time coach more than $5M.

He's ridiculously stupid and cheap when it comes to free agency, but it isnt true with the coaches. I'm not sure where people get this from (other than a comment made by blowhard Rex Ryan last yr)
There's been a number of position coaches and coordinators that were right at the top or at the top of the league in salaries. Just off the top of my head Norv Turner was after the 1992 super bowl win (got a raise for 93 season). Hudson Houck and Ernie Zampese were the highest paid. (Houck two different times), Garrett got a massive raise after the 2007 season and that's why he stayed instead of leaving for a HC job (it's unfortunate that happened). Bill Callahan was one of the top paid OL coaches when he was here. Rod Marinelli was the highest paid DL coach when we hired him. Dan Quinn and Mike Zimmer were both right at the top of highest paid Defensive Coordinators.
Of the head coaches, yes Chan Gailey and Dave Campo were both low paid, but they had not done anything to warrant a high salary. Jimmy was one of the highest paid coaches, Switzer actually was on the higher end. Parcells was the 2nd highest paid HC when Jones hired him. McCarthy's deal when he signed it put him on the fairly well paid end.

So Fat Mike dug in and didnt want to stay in Dallas because he wanted a 5yr deal instead of 3 (never mind the fact that he did nothing to warrant ANY contract extension). He hired a new agent and apparently they both thought they were a lock for the Bears or Saints jobs, and they got neither. 6 opens total (Jets, Raiders, Jags, Cowboys, Saints, Bears) and McCarthy couldnt get 1 of them.
And to make it even funnier, the guy Fat Mike essentially fired as OC after the 2022 season got the HC job he supposedly thought he was a shoo-in for.

NFL rumors: Saints preferred to hire Kliff Kingsbury over Kellen Moore as head coach
Although the Saints expect to hire Kellen Moore as their next HC, he wasn't the first choice. In fact, that would be Kliff Kingsbury.

While Mickey Loomis didn't come out and say it himself, rumors sputtered after the Super Bowl that the Saints preferred Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, per Grant Paulsen on X.
“From the Super Bowl week notebook: I was told by a rival team official the Saints job was Kliff Kingsbury's if he wanted it,” Paulsen wrote. “Was made clear to him that was the case. He preferred calling plays in DC and staying with Daniels over taking the gig.”
While some people might aspire to be a head coach in the future, Kingsbury's been down that road already. Unfortunately for him, Kingbury's first attempt at being a head coach at the NFL level didn't end so well.
After spending six seasons as the head coach for Texas Tech — three of which were with quarterback Patrick Mahomes — Kingsbury was hired by the Arizona Cardinals in 2019 to put them back on track.
With the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Kingsbury and the Cardinals selected quarterback Kyler Murray, hoping to bring Arizona fruitful years of successful football. That isn't how his tenure would go in Arizona, as Kingsbury got fired after a 4-13 record in the 2022 season.
