As much as I love Jimmy Johnson the Cowboys had their sights set on Blair Thomas but he was off the board. They had to “settle” for Emmitt.
Jimmy infamously coveted James Francis and Lamar Lathon that yr.

He also said numerous times had we still had our #1 pick (we had to forfeit it due to the Steve Walsh supplemental pick) we'd have drafted Junior Seau. That was kinda interesting because Cortez Kennedy (his own guy from U Miami) went 3rd overall and we desperately needed DL help. The next yr we'd draft another Hurricane DT #1 overall (Russell Maryland)

Loved me some Russell Maryland, bad feet and all

Emmitt had "game speed" part of what made him so sneaky good.
I was fortunate to be at both NFC championship games in SF in 1992 and 1994 sitting in the end zone. Emmitt’s vision was incredible hitting the holes. I also loved the way he would peel tacklers off with his free hand.

I watched him every yr he was at Florida (obviously huge Georgia fan) and he was amazing from the onset. One of his first games as a FR was at Alabama and he just shredded the Tide D that day. He ran for 200+

There's some highlights from a Florida-UCLA game in Emmitt's FR yr in this video, it's the Aloha Bowl. On one play James Washington (yes, our Super Bowl hero James Washington) tackles Emmitt. The QB for UCLA that day? Troy Aikman. UCLA won the game.

Theres definitely some similarities between Emmitt and Jeanty. Similar running style, similar size. Both had huge thighs. I think Jeanty has more pure speed though.

Louis Reddick said Jeanty definitely reminds him a lot of Emmitt.

Belongs in the draft thread but since we are discussing Emmitt and Jeanty together, am posting it here.

This clip all v Oregon in week 2. He almost single handedly carries them to a massive upset. He ends up with nearly 200 yds and 3 tds on 25 carries. Oregon has quite a few NFL caliber defensive prospects and their HC Dan Lanning is one of the best defensive coaches in college football. To me it's a cut and dry case, if he is there at 12 we should take him. I don't think he's going to be there though.

Drive By could have easily been MVP in the one Super Bowl he and Leon Lett always seemed to show up in the big games

Do you put #22 on his back?

Why not if that’s what he wants? I doubt he would want the comparison from day one but as you know the Cowboys have never retired a number. Has anyone go your knowledge ever worn numbers 12 and 74 besides Roger and Bob?

If Jourdan Lewis leaves via FA then Jeanty could have the #2 that he has been wearing at Boise St

I'd put max pressure on the kid by giving him 22 and expecting greatness.

Jeanty, not even any serious thought for me would go into it.

He's special. Bell cow traits with legit breakaway speed and cutting ability. Good receiving skill. Right football mentality.
Yeah, I lean that way, but it comes down to what sort of offense Schotty wants, and I think he would lean toward running it.

Did you watch Jeanty's interview with Jon Gruden? Jeanty is also very intelligent.

I don't know guys....I'm just not seeing it with Jeanty and I don't think he's anything like Emmitt.......I actually think Zeke was a better prospect in terms of size and speed. I'd go with a bigger back and take DT in the 1st. Of course, it all depends how the board falls but I don't jump the gun on this guy.

He blocks too. But do you take him at 12? Would certainly send a message but it'll be called a low value pick. Lots of holes needed filled.
I have no problem at 12. To me, that's a lot better than 4 for Zeke.

I personally have always thought Zeke was overrated. I never saw the juke, the ability to make a player miss, from Zeke.

On top of that, Zeke came into the NFL as being a bit of a knucklehead. If you haven't seen Jeanty's interview with Jon Gruden, then watch it. The kid is smart and level headed. Disciplined!

And running behind "the best OL in football" needs to be factored in. DeMarco Murray also had nice seasons behind basically that same OL.

To me, Jeanty is definitely better than Zeke.

It's kind of like the difference between Lamb and Bryant. Both Zeke and Bryant were brutes. Lamb and Jeanty have a higher overall skill level.

I'm not saying that Zeke and Bryant sucked. I'm just saying there were other factors beyond their own skill level that made them who they were. I think you could put Lamb on any team, in any system, and he would shine. Same with Jeanty.

I don't see what you see. Zeke was in the 4.47s

Jeanty still needs to do the combine, but NFL draft buzz has him at 4.42. He'll train specifically for the 40 and likely cut it some.

Granted, it's not much of a difference, but to me, the balance, the patience, the ability to slow down, speed up, mid-run, the ability to make people miss, to slide off tackles, it's all better with Jeanty.

And as I pointed out previously, Zeke came into the NFL as a bit of a knucklehead. Jeanty is clean in that regard and smart.
