Hindsight is always 20/20, but it was no different than using a 4th rd pick on a QB in last yrs draft.

The only downside was Lance only had two years of control left (assuming we didnt franchise him). The upside is it was a guy who was rated considerably higher than the guy you could have drafted in the 4th.

It was worth the risk. At least they took a shot on a bigger QB with athletic ability and a legit NFL caliber arm.
Hindsight is NOT 20/20. Once you have NFL tape, what a player was rated as in the draft becomes irrelevant.

A blind man could see that Trey was a bust. All we did was develop him for another team. The "only downside" was a huge downside.

It's like going to buy a used BMW for 40k and the guy says, the only downside is it will only last 2 years. Oh, and by the way, for the past 2 years we couldn't get it to start. But it says BMW on the car, so is it worth the risk because you can't get another car that says BMW for 40k if you go to a new car dealership.?

I don't think it was anonymous, I thought I read something that the Packers want it banned. I don't think they're the only team either.

The "tush push" isnt football, its more like rugby or something. I don't believe defensive players can "push" fellow teammates, so offensive players shouldn't be allowed to do it either.
It used to BE illegal. "Helping the runner."

The kid has all the physical tools. But above the neck is the football problem. Wish we had another couple of years to work with him.

I don't know guys....I'm just not seeing it with Jeanty and I don't think he's anything like Emmitt.......I actually think Zeke was a better prospect in terms of size and speed. I'd go with a bigger back and take DT in the 1st. Of course, it all depends how the board falls but I don't jump the gun on this guy.
Yeah,
Call it too short if a shelf life or just generally overworked legs that gave out too soon but people are acting like Zekes first 3 to 4 years didn't happen. For that short window Zeke was everything as advertised and then some. Him famously moving those piles with that leg drive was a thing to watch.

Did we give up a fourth or fifth round pick for Lance? In my mind if he had worked his way up to the backup spot instead of staying third string it wouldn’t have been a wasted pick
we gave up a 4th

He hardly had any NFL tape, he got injured both years after winning the starting job. He started a total of 4 games. 4 games is not enough to draw a real conclusion on any player. The only reason the Niners gave up on him so fast is they caught lightning in a bottle with a 7th rd pick (who didnt "win" the starting job either, he took over after injuries to the top two starters)

It wasnt like he started for 3 or 4 yrs and couldnt throw the ball into the ocean.

There was absolutely zero downside to trading a 4th rd pick for the guy to see if we could develop him.

I don't think Zeke was much into taking care of his body as he needed to be and that's what really takes a toll especially for RBs and MLBs

Can he run routes and catch the ball? I really hate to see us let a guy with the tools he has, walk away. Make a swiss army knife type of player out of him.

Did we even try to develop him though? Jerry famously said he had no desire to see Trey Lance in at QB.

If we really had any interest in developing him then he should have been given first shot at the QB gig the moment Dak went down. You surely have to see what Lance can give you. You already know what Cooper Rush is.

And let's not forget. We had serious interest in Bucky Irving in last year's draft. And he was chosen 2 picks after the pick we gave up for Lance.

I really do believe they initially made the move for Lance as a potential hedge against not extending Prescott. After the 5 pick preseason game, they seemed to lose any faith and then two weeks later extended 4 before the opening kickoff (which was stupid).

But I do think they traded for the guy because they wanted to try and develop him. Remember we traded for him during preseason in 2023 after they failed to draft a developmental guy in the draft that April.

It may also have been an (ultimately futile) attempt by Jerry to regain some leverage in contract negotiations with Dak. Look who we've just got Dak!!!

I see them on eBay for $9 each with $5 shipping. Not sure if they are selling many, but that’s what they’re asking.
I have all but one of the Landry-era Dallas Cowboys Bluebooks. One of them is signed by Randy White. I always hoped that one day they might be worth something, but now I seriously doubt that.
