They kept talking about the "style points" during the broadcast (and after) but while the offense did what it was supposed to do in that regard (we scored every time we had the ball except one against mostly backups) the defense didn't get any "style points' from my point of view. Philly backups pretty much ran the ball at will and while I expected some busted coverages due to all our backups playing, what I didn't expect was the ho-hum pass rush game. We got 3 sacks but there were far too many plays where we didn't hit the QB. The Eagle mostly backups had drives of 11 plays, 10 plays, 15 plays and 14 plays. That is suckass defense.
1) Prescott obviously looked really good (as he should have) but I liked that he was more aggressive throwing downfield, and on numerous throws he showed good anticipation and seemed to trust his guys more. Granted, again its against mostly backups. But other than maybe 2 or 3 throws it seemed like his accuracy was better.
2) Cedric Wilson is this teams 4th WR. I can't imagine there's a team in football that has a better #4 guy. He had a great game last night and we're really fortunate to have a guy like that able to step in for Gallup. Wilson is gonna get paid by someone after this season to be a starter, he's earned it.
3) Eventually Kelvin Joseph is going to start catching these balls that are thrown at him. He made another good play last night, only to have the ball deflect the only place it could and be caught. Overall he appeared to have a really good game and he actually led the team in tackles with 9. If he keeps his focus on football he is going to be a really good player, and we'll be the envious position of having two bigtime starting CB's for the next several seasons.
4) I liked what we saw from 7th rd pick Matt Farniok (#68) in the 4th qtr at C. He got some real movement and also got to the 2nd level for additional blocks at least 2 or 3 times. He looks like he has some potential for us for the future.
5) Hey Tarell Basham, I could do without the "I just won the super bowl" celebration because you got a sack on a 2pt conversion. You just helped a bunch of scrub team backups go 14 plays for 75 yds for a TD.
6) Another week, another badly missed PAT by Zuerlien. He made his one FG, but that didnt look very solid either. Probably was lucky it wasnt blocked with as low as he kicked it.
7) Yeah our defense was missing some guys, but they let a bunch of backups get 22 first downs, convert 10/18 on 3rd down, rush for nearly 150 yds. That's two weeks in a row now the defense has struggled to get teams off the field on 3rd down.
8) Color me completely unimpressed with Demontae Kazee, Keanu Neal and Malik Hooker. Genuinely hope NONE of them is on the team next year. Neal might be done for the season with an arm/shoulder thing anyway, but Hooker and Kazee suck in coverage downfield.
9) It was the topic of much discussion with IdiotZoners peeing their diapers over McCarthy's decision during the week and instead play guys and win the game, but I thought all along it was the right call. While very unlikely, there was still a chance at improving to the 2 or 3 seed and probably more important in my book anyway was the fact this team NEEDS to play and needs to play GOOD. I don't care if it was against their backups or not, our offense needed to have a good performance like that before starting the playoffs. Props to McCarthy for doing what I thought was the right thing as this team has proven time and again they can't be trusted. Give them a week off to screw around and they probably show up rusty for the playoff game next week (and might anyway, you never know) and just like Garrett and Wade before see our team quickly walked out of the postseason.
