Hard to get an elite pass rushing "war daddy" at pick 28. Taco is not that guy. That doesn't mean picking him was a waist. In addition to a dominant RE edge rusher you do also need run stuffing DE's that can set the edge. For every Charles Haley you need a Tony Tolbert or Jim Jeffcoat. They will just have to continue to work to get that "war daddy".

UDFA signings update;

Woody Baron DT Virginia Tech 6-1 275
Undersized, but 18.5 TFL and 5.5 sacks in 2016 indicates someone who knows how to get into the backfield. Had some huge games - 4.5 TFL and 2.5 sacks vs Miami, 3.5 TFL vs Duke, 3 TFL vs Georgia Tech.

Dallas Cowboys
Grade: C+

This was a strange class from the Cowboys, who kicked things off by addressing their need for an edge defender, but going with more of a run-defending edge-setter in Michigan’s Taco Charlton. Then came a double-dip in the secondary with Colorado’s versatile Chidobe Awuzie and Michigan’s undersized Jourdan Lewis.

The Cowboys’ next three picks were great values: North Carolina slot receiver/return man Ryan Switzer, Louisiana Tech safety Xavier Woods and Florida State corner Marquez White. Taking three corners but no linebackers, no tight end in a deep class, and no true pass-rushing specialist on the edge is what weighs down this grade.

So much for the lovefest. Most of the other grades I saw were A's and B's.
I don't know that I'd go C+, but I do think all the other teams in the division had better drafts.

I thought the Giants had a pretty mediocre draft.

The Redskins got some really good players and also got really fortunate that Jonathan Allen fell in their laps. No question they had a good week.

The Eagles draft was pretty so-so I thought. Sidney Jones was a great player at Washington and would have definitely been a 1st rd pick, but Achilles tears for CB's are really tough to overcome and they picked this guy pretty early in the 2nd.

So definitely don't agree that all 3 other NFC teams did better than us.

Yeah, I don't know about the Giants. Taking another receiving-only TE when you already had all those other weapons seems like a luxury, and I suspect Davis Webb will be a total waste.

The Eagles and especially the Skins did well, though.

This is why all of "we'll improve through the draft" talk is such nonsense. Every team tries to improve through the draft. Sitting out free agency isn't some amazing brainiac strategy, it's called not having cap room, and telling the sheep you just don't want to add free agents.

Teams can get better through free agency. Spending money on other teams' players isn't automatically some type of failure by your Front Office.

I liked what we did on Day One and Day Two. I can even live with the Woods trade, even though I'm not all that impressed with him. I think we did poorly in the 7th round and UDFA but that's not where you make your living. I still think Jerry's mandate of wanting to draft the guys no one has heard of is still in place, at least towards the end of the draft.

You never heard of Marquez White & Noah Brown?

I'll admit I didn't know anything about the CO DL they drafted, I kinda knew who the Fla DL was just because of where I live and keeping up with the SEC, and I had also heard about his proday workout.

But I knew who White and Brown were. They were hardly "no names"

Of course I have. I was talking about the Colorado DL and the glorified Nick Hayden we drafted out of Florida, and then more specifically the UDFA. The Zoners swear up and down we dominate UDFA every year but I just don't see it.

I think we did poorly in the 7th round and UDFA .

You might want to take a look at Lewis Neal, he's got kinda funny build for a DE but he's been pretty productive on a good defense. he had 8 sacks as a Junior.

Keenan Gilchrist from Appalachian State is also interesting. He's been a very good player for them and performed very well the last two years when they played Clemson (2015) and then Tenn (2016) I think he had 9 or 10 tackles and forced fumble against TN (goalline hit on QB). Moves around very well and is a really solid tackler. I think he ran 4.6 at his proday.

Definitely take a look at RB Jahad Thomas. Small but extremely productive and appears to catch the ball effortlessly. 37 TD's last two seasons rushing and receiving.

A couple of the OL (Meyers and Theaker) have a chance.

The Giants had a better draft? They are in desperate need of OL help and need a RB. They had all of the OL still on the board and chose a TE instead. He wasn't even the best TE still on the board when they picked either. And did they ever get a RB? Their draft was very suspect. Eagles had a decent draft. Skins probably had a better draft.

I'm interested in seeing how Noah Brown develops.

So I guess Gareon Conley and his attorney's first claimed that he didn't even touch the woman who alleges he raped her. Then there was "well we were in bed together but absolutely nothing happened". Then he supposedly passed a polygraph.

Now today they are admitting there was sex involved, but she consented.

Then there's this- no matter what the result he wont be disciplined by the NFL because they claim "this happened before the draft"

I don't recall all the timetable from the NFL's Zeke Elliott witch hunt last year, but wasn't that before the draft too?
