Aaand there it is. Like clockwork every single year.
Even worse, they were saying how Jaylon Smith was STILL a top-5 player on their draft board, even with the injury

Excuse me, this is a 12-4 team. Last year doesn't count. Don't you listen to the Jones boys?
Hey guys, out of the last SIX.....FUCKING SIX....2nd round picks assigned to Dallas, how many players will be contributors on opening day this year?
The answer: None. Escobar is the only player with a shot at even suiting up.
Couple that with Rod Marinelli not even being able to get his name right during his selection call (pronounced his name with a G)
He called him "Gaylon" ?
I just can't believe we'd actually roll with Kellen Moore again. We have to do something.
And edit, dbair's post wasn't up when I wrote that. Scary.
One of the things I think might happen...wonder if we try to trade a late rd pick next yr for a backup QB...whether its Foles or McCown, not sure who else is available
Still hoping we trade Leary for a 4th or 5th rd pick, though looking doubtful that will happen now.
Random weird thought on QBs: If we don't draft one now, what about calling the Jets to see if they'd trade us Bryce Petty? I thought he could be a good developmental guy, and IIRC the team liked him too. The Jets just drafted Hackenberg and surely don't need three young QBs. They only gave a 4th for him, so maybe they'd give up to us for a 5th or 6th?

Bob Sturm: Quarterback? Defense? What Cowboys should do in Rounds 4-7

Bob Sturm analyzes the Dallas Cowboys' Round 2 and Round 3 picks of the NFL Draft.
The Cowboys took a risk on injured Jaylon Smith, whom they said was in their Top 5 of their draft board. What do you think of the pick?
I don’t know if it’s hyperbole for them to say top 5. Every time the Cowboys are making a pick they say we had him here on our draft board. They get a little carried away. He is a fantastic football player with all sorts of great attributes which I have detailed. I think if you’re going to take a chance taking a player off an injury, he is very high up on the list I would take a chance on. I hesitate to say everything is going to be all right. It sounds like a huge injury with nerve damage. Because they have medical people who have signed off on it, including the doctor who did the procedure, that calms me down a bit. But it’s reasonable to say, “We will believe he is fully healthy when he proves it on the field.” I’m skeptical of the pick at that spot (No. 34 overall). If they get him back to fully healthy by 2017, we will all agree he’s worth the trouble. If his health holds up, there’s very little reason for me to believe he’s not going to be a star on Sunday. The question is how long are we going to wait?
The Cowboys appeared to be in win-now mode with Tony Romo’s career nearing an end and yet they took a player who can’t help them in 2016. Are you worried about the defense?
I’m quite concerned. That’s a real issue. If you feel like I do, that Romo is on a ticking clock, and does not have lots of time left, every year matters. I think by taking Ezekiel Elliott they weren’t worried about the long term. They were worried about immediately. I am reasonable sure they looked at Emmanuel Ogbah State and Kevin Dodd, but they had the third pick. [Editor's note: Both were taken in the first two picks of the second round.] Well then maybe the Cowboys were caught scrambling just a little bit. I really believe they wanted someone who was going to make a difference immediately. I am not sure that there was a defensive lineman they thought could be a player in 2016 was there at a high enough quality. I kind of thought if they were going to do it, they were going to go the direction of Myles Jack. But if you feel the two players are close and one has a degenerative condition (Jack), and one your doctors tell you (Smith) will fully heal, I would have to fall in line with that diagnosis. I’m certainly not a medical expert but the thought process makes sense.
What do you think of the Cowboys’ third-round pick Maliek Collins?
A player I have to do some study on next week and do some video homework, but based on people I talked to, they feel like he was the best three-technique on their board at that point. In 2015 we all talk about the injuries to Tony Romo, Dez Bryant and Lance Dunbar, but we don’t talk about the Tyrone Crawford injury. That’s because he tried to play through it and he wasn’t himself. The Cowboys want more than one three-technique [defensive lineman] so they are covered in the future. The good teams -- Carolina, Seattle and Arizona – have quality defensive line rotations they don’t just have three or four good ones. They try to select 6-8. That’s what the good teams do. It sounds like a good idea, but we have to hope Collins is that type of disrupter and penetrator into the backfield that they think he is.
What do you want the Cowboys to do with their final picks Saturday?
On Day 3 you are looking to find roster players who can help you. The good teams are able to make some profits on Day 3 and the Cowboys don’t have a great track record of this. If there are some sacks to be found and Ronald Blair of Appalachian State is the one I have my eyes on, that would be really exciting. But I think we can all see by looking at the board that there are three spots pretty deep. Running back and I don’t think that’s an option. Two markets they might be in, wide receiver, there are four to five names that intrigue me and quarterback. The Cowboys could look at Dak Prescott and Connor Cook, Cardale Jones and give them some youthful talent they could develop. I’m not in love with any of these quarterback prospects but that doesn’t mean they are. That’s a real possibility to start Round 4. From there, if they want to make a smart move or two, continue to add to your defense. Focus on the secondary. Add one more young corner to move on.

no one? what about a LB? safety? cornerback? it had to be Ogbah or Dodd or else we had no choice but to do something incredibly risky? retarded.

Jerry's story about the Ravens - my first reaction was, shit, if I were the Ravens I'd be pissed that Jerry was relaying a private conversation about what we wanted to do in the draft. Given how secretive teams want to be at draft time, it would seem like a significant breech of trust.
So for me, now, it is unclear what to believe. Did the Ravens get pissed and deny what Jerry shouldn't have made public, or did Jerry completely fabricate?
I'm not upset with the pick either way .... but, yeah, it doesn't reflect well on Jerry either way. Either he broke a confidence or lied.
