His point is that the team had a need at safety.
Some cowboys scout not only whiffed on chancellor, but they did so while favoring (and waaaay over drafting) an athlete from a small school who just wasn't very good. We took a major project from a tiny school.
On top of that, we've for years addressed the safety position in this fashion - taking project draft players AOA/JJ Willbust etc or relying on undrafted free agent nobodies who despite being try hard RKG's never pan out.
Safety has been our Achilles ever since Mark Brunnell hit Santana Moss deep TWICE in the waining moments of a lost MNF game to the Redskins. 12 years. Yet the team remains steadfast in their inane approach to fielding the position.
It's aggravating af.
My point is EVERY team missed on him, not just the Cowboys. Even if you didn’t have a need at safety, would you still pass up on a Kam Chancellor? Nobody knew his potential. I think he is a bad example to use.
I don’t see the point in revisiting every mistake the Cowboys scouting department has made over the last 20 years. There have been plenty of bad picks, we all know that. We also don’t know what the scouts are saying or how they are rating the safeties. We do know Jerry hasn’t always followed his board in the past.
I don’t know why the Cowboys continue to devalue the safety position. Maybe it’s a scheme thing? Maybe they felt burned by Roy Williams flaming out at a young age?
I am not a fan of Church or Wilcox. I thought they were showing some improvement this season. These last two games, not so much. Hopefully Bryon can take over for Wilcox at some point. I do like him although he is probably going to get killed against Gronk on Sunday.
