Sure he's been great all-around, but he never had the gaudy stats like Gonzalez or the new breed like Gronk or Graham, and the voters might hold that against him.
Hmm, Witten averages over 80 catches per yr, 900 yds per yr and 4.5 tds. He's had 4 seasons with 94+ catches, including last season 1ith 110. He's had 4 1000+ yd seasons and 3 others with 940+. His career yds per catch is 11.1
Gonzalez has had a much longer career. He does have better TD numbers. In 16 yrs though he's had 5 seasons with 90+ catches. only 1 of over 100. His career yds per catch is 11.5. His avg season is 77 catches, 891 yds and 6.4 tds.
Not sure what some of you stat whores are short changing Witten for.
Of course you can blame my favorite coach for a lot of those mediocre TD numbers. It's not like Witten wasn't capable, it's that for whatever inexplicable reason he wasn't targeted.
I know you hate Garrett, and pass plays in the redzone where Witten stays into block are as dumb as the defensive coaches who use DeMarcus ware in pass coverage on 3rd down and obvious pass situations. That said, Witten runs plenty of patterns in the redzone and endzone. Garrett doesn't decide who to throw the football too. he doesn't have a playstation controller in his hand that forces Romo to throw the ball to certain players. The QB ultimately decides who to throw the football to. I don't know why this is such a hard concept for some of you to grasp.
